After indefinitely delaying Flipnote Studio 3D, Nintendo has probably learned how to better manage release dates, right?
Wrong.
Effective today, Poké Bank is being delayed indefinitely in North America and Europe, and has been completely disabled and pulled from the eShop in Japan. Here's a direct quote from Nintendo.
"Nintendo and The Pokemon Company International have postponed the launch of Pokemon Bank and Poke Transporter - two software applications that were originally scheduled to launch for Nintendo 3DS on Dec. 27 - due to a large volume of traffic to the Nintendo Network service. Due to the high traffic, players are having trouble setting up Nintendo Network IDs and downloading content in the Nintendo eShop on both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS. We truly regret the inconvenience, and wish to reassure everyone that providing a solution is our top priority. We apologize for the delay and thank you for your continued patience."
As you can see here, Nintendo's servers are having difficulties across all platforms, which the website specifically states is due to high traffic beginning on Christmas morning, so it could be to avoid any data loss during a transfer, which wouldn't be good at all, and the backlash might be worse in the end.
So everyone who has Pokémon X/Y and was expecting to transfer (myself included); hang in there. The delay is probably due to the server overload caused by all the new Wii U's and 3DS's that were received over Christmas. It'll probably be released after the huge amount of holiday traffic subsides, and then you'll be able to transfer your Pokémon.
This isn't the first time that any servers have been over loaded, anytime that any company has a jump in usage connected to the internet it usually happens, that kind of stuff is unexpected.
We've been selling craptons of Wii U's at my store. More than PS4's (because we have none in stock) and Xbone's (because no one wants them), so I'd expect some heavy traffic on Nintendo's servers.
