Grown-up: A person that acts his or her age.
Grow old: When a person ages.
Grow tall: When someone... gets taller.
So, you can't control growing old, but it's your choice if you want to grow up.
I have changed. I am different very different.

"Grown-up" is to be mature, experienced, and knowledgeable. Completely different from growing older.
It's like comparing "act your age" and "act mature"; sure, they may sound similar, but they're two completely different things.
