If this can be implemented in such a way where it doesn't add clutter to the page, I think this can be an extremely powerful tool.

This is just my interpretation of whatever this vague wording is, so this is more or less my two cents.

What comes to mind immeadiately is GitHub's search feature.

Just as a demonstration, this is what happens if I search for "hullbreach":


There's tabs on the left that allows you to switch to whatever thing you're looking for.

Granted, I'm not sure how to implement this in DSiPaint, with its overly narrow body, but something like this where all the searches are consolidated on page (blogs, users, uploaded images) would be very useful.

Again, just my two cents.

All of these already exist somewhere. Putting it on the homepage would just cause clutter.

Search for posts: Homepage → Bulletin Boards
Search for paintings: Homepage → DSPaint → Gallery → Enter artist name
Search for users: My Zone → Friends → Search members
(This is all from memory, so I may very well be wrong)
