Help Desk Request - Register with same email address

I wanted to register with my existing email address, but it won't allow you to use it; it'll say something like, "This email address is not available". So I have to make up an email address that usually is a take on my actual email.
This is what I propose:
Allow us to sign up with our email address, and if it's already in use with another account, it'll ask for verification. Something that would work is to have an actual email sent to us to verify, with a link. Verification and registration done.
Another thing would be a question asking if we would like to have the account (an alternate, I presume) be a joint account, and an option somewhere in our Settings where we can switch between accounts without needing to completely log out. And if we do log out, it would log out of both accounts. And when we log back in, both accounts are accessible (This is similar to how Instagram is set up, with switching between accounts signed up with the same email addresses).
I created my alt not for that purpose, but instead to circumvent a ban I thought was unjust. Other admins agreed, and the ban was lifted, but I kept that account up for fun. Really, it shouldn't be up, but I'm doing it for fun.
I do agree with Tora that the switching function would add extra utility, but the same email thing is disagreeable. Emails, as far as I am concerned, are just identifying pieces of information and it isn't used outside of the registration process. I myself have at least 8 Google accounts, so this isn't an issue, but I can see why needing a unique email would be frustrating.
I personally think @HullBreach can think of a great reason for requiring unique emails, likely account control.
I think what Rlad's getting at is that email addresses can be accidentally locked out by terminators.
I do see some merit with this kind of feature, unlike Rlad, but that's only if you manage multiple accounts at once. As far as I'm concerned, alt-accounting ought to be kept on the down-low, mainly because it serves next to no purpose on this site.
The only time an email doesn't work is of there was an account ATTEMPTED to be made, or an account was successfully made. Either way sometimes what can happen is that a user may provide there email address and we misclick a button preventing that user from using that email. So realistically the only thing I'm getting from this is that terminators need a two step confirmation. Otherwise I don't really see anything beneficial here
The entire idea of requiring an email address is to deter alt-accounting. So I don't think that will change, and your workaround will have to become the norm.
On the other hand, I do like the idea of swapping accounts under one session (or not one session, I dunno how Facebook manages it internally). I know firsthand that Messenger doesn't require one email address to have multiple logins. That being said, this thing will probably take a lot of effort for what it's worth, so rather low down the priority charts.
