This had actually happened to me before (not that it's supposed to), but unlike when it happened in the past, this time my 2DS system can't be turned back on. Every time I try to turn it back on now, the power light briefly lights up, then goes back out within seconds. The screen doesn't light up at all, nor does it make any sounds with or without headphones in.
oh and i figured out that the 3ds has magnets for activating sleep mode when its closed,
maybe the 2ds has that too.
get some magnets.
and place it near the handheld,
my 3ds has a magnet on the B button.
it also works if you place a magnet in the right place.
or its maybe a bad trace on the board, or its corrosion.

Blue, the color that it normally does when the battery is not low.
(And I tried charging it until the orange charging light went out after it had first happened, and it still didn't work after I did.)
Low key sounds like you didn't charge the battery, but whatever the condition, I hope it gets fixed soon

Well, although I did charge the battery (it was actually the first thing that I tried after it happened), Mom said something similar happened to her BlackBerry once, and that she had resolved it by leaving it on charge for "a full 12 hours", and so I'm going to try the same thing with my 2DS, and see if it works.
(I personally think it has something to do with the sleep mode switch, though.)

Yeah, I figured the solution wouldn't be that simple :p

BTW, I tried out Mom's idea, and it didn't work.

That's no good... but that's expected since the battery isn't the issue here (?)
Unsure of what it could be, but I hope it's fixed soon
