I hear the tick tock,
"Go to sleep" it says.
The whispering keeps me awake.

Glance at my alarm clock.
Still too early to get out of bed...
my mind's buzzing with hate.

The dark thoughts that I see.
Sleep's enemy is my head.
I just wish...

The light shouldn't be out at night.
People shouldn't be making sound.
The sound of cars driving.
The crying of a hound.

I just wish...
they would shhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

The lights go out.
The voices fade away.
The cars drive off,
and the dog hit's the hay.

My dark thoughts still.
Silence at last.
Go to sleep I will!
Wait! Not so fast!

I'm still awake!
My head isn't a riot...
There's nothing to bother me,
...it's just too quiet.

I simply give in.
On goes my light.
I grab my pencil and paper.
I stay awake all night.
