I like vinyl, it's fun, it spins, the album art is beautiful, and I can hold it! I have two Pink Floyd albums, The Wall and Dark Side of the Moon, I've been listening to them a lot recently and I wanted to talk about them. First I'll talk about The Wall, it's The Wall. What can I say about it that hasn't already been said, it's one of the most popular albums of all time, the last gasp of the concept album, an album that tells a story, has a moral. It, to me, is what going insane sounds like, what isolating yourself from everyone else sounds like, what trauma sounds like. It's what my thoughts sound like (except for the trauma, I'm not going to claim I have trauma when there's people much worse off than me, people that have been to Hell and back) never before had I thought an album could capture my mental state so perfectly, AND THE MOVIE! There is a movie based on the album, released in 1982, if you're observant you'll notice that that's three years after The Wall released, it was originally designed to be released with a movie but the record label didn't like it so it sat there but they already had made animations for it, a year or two later a guy convinced the record label to let them make the movie. It's so profound, (you can watch it on YouTube) it ties the album together. It emotionally moved me, I know this term is overused but something big inside me shifted. I really don't have words to describe the album, it's amazing, beautiful, what arts meant to be, it doesn't give a crap about societal norms or expectations, it's shocking even today it's amazing. It's what I want to play at my funeral. I love it, it's not for everyone though. It's prog rock and it's hard to listen to but if you can it will change your life.
