Ah, the religions there's so many religions... Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Judaism, Hinduism, etc...
But, what exactly is a religion?
Well, a religion is a bunch of believes and rituals, and thoughts about many existencial things like:

-Morality
-Life and death
-Origin of humanity
-Meaning to Life
-Etc...

Most of religions have one, or many gods, a god is a powerful entity, who created one of many things in the universe, and its adorated by the religious doctrines.

With the many religions in the world, the biggest religion in world is the Christianity, and the second biggest religion is the Islam, both being monotheist (who believes in existance of one single god)

But... Are these beliefs proven? In many cases, NO, the religious beliefs are based in many cases only in the faith, but without many proves that confirm that their beliefs are true. Many religious stories are like the legends, freely based on real events, but modified for making it more epic and sacred. For example, Jesus, there's many non-religious perspectives about who was Jesus, but there are the main ones:

Theory of the Historical Jesus: This theory says that Jesus of Nazareth was a real person, a historical personality and founder of the christianity, and its based on many registers of some historians and writers of his time

Theory of the Myth of Jesus: This theory says that Jesus wasn't real, and it's only a mythical character, and its based on the affirmation that there isn't too many evidence of the existance of Jesus.

Talking about myths, there's the mythologies, who is similar, but with the difference that nobody believes on them anymore, but in the past, those were religions with many believers, but for many circumstances, like the apparition of other religions, the people lost its original beliefs, turning that religions into mythologies.

Also, there's many contradictions of some members of the religions, for example, most of religions talk about life and love to each other, but some extremists just want to murder everyone who follow other religions (For example the islamist terrorist groups like Al-Qaeda, ISIS, Talibans, etc...) I mean, not all the muslims are like that, i just want to prove that some extremist religious people could murder and humble that ones who doesn't follow the same religions.

In the other side, there's Science, what the science do? well, it sees something unknown, it makes a theory about it, and tries to prove it with many experiments and thoughts, and that theory is confirmed and discarded, according if the experiment was succesful or failed, the science knows to say "I don't know" when really doesn't know something, meanwhile, religion leaves all to the faith and unproved beliefs.

But, its the atheism the best option? I think not, because even if is not proven the existance of any gods, there isn't also proves of the opposite, the unexistance of any god, i think its probable the existance of any superior entity, but if it exist, i think is not like any of the gods humanity imagined, the most probable is that its a totally different thing, just pay attention to this:

For example, the christian god is supposed to be a good and powerful parent who cares for the peace and love of humanity... But, what about all the hate, crimes and wars who happened and still happen in all the world? What about those poor Ukrainian, Syrian, Palestinian, Lybian or Afghan children? what about all the innocent people who dies in many wars? and has no fault of the conflicts... What about the innocent people who suffer in hands of murderers, rapists, kidnappers, and theives? Where's god to help that poor people? and the same thing happen with almost all gods of every religion, so thats what i said that, if there's some superior entity, it is not like any of the gods that humans imagine.

So, for that reason, i think the best religious posture is Agnosticism, because in a scientist rational world, nothing is true or fake, until there's proves. AND YES, i know many historical scientist were religious people, like Isaac Newton or Galileo Galilei, but, that was other times, and today is the XXI century, and even if famous scientist were religious, that doesn't make their religious beliefs less unverifiable.

Anyways, i recognize something about religion, and its the historical and morale footprint that it left, msny of the rules and order of societies were possible thanks to religious beliefs, as many philosophical and morale rules, at the end of the day, i think we must judge religions in this modern world, from a historic perspective, as beliefs from the past that maybe doesn't fit in the modern world, but that left its footprint for creating the civilizations, just like the ancient mythologies, we need a more secularized world, also, another warning, i'm not against religious people, but this maybe can help some people to reflect a little, in an intelligent world, we need the philosophy and science, and the reason for always questioning the existant, and concluding in new thoughts and beliefs, the reason and the reflections are just one of the keys of success of societies, anyways, in today's world, religion's traditional or literal interpretation is out of place, but it can still being useful for metaphoric, philosophical or historical purposes.
