I've been very suprised to hear people say, how do you what hells like. The one thing Jesus preached about the most in the gospels is hell! This story comes from Luke 16:19-31, but put into readable English.
There once was a rich man, who dressed in the best clothes, and lived in luxury. There was also a beggar named Lazarus, who laid at the rich man's gate, full of sores. He was so hungry he just wanted to eat the leftover crumbs from the rich man's food. Every day dogs would come and lick his sores.
When the beggar died, he went to heaven. (He believed in Christ) Then the rich man died. In hell, (he was unsaved) he looked up, and being torment, saw heaven, and saw Lazarus there. The rich man cried to God, "Send Lazarus, that he would give me just one drop of water to cool my tongue, because I am tormented in all this fire!" God said, "You had a good life. Lazarus didn't. Now he is comforted, and you aren't. There is no way Lazarus could go down to hell." The rich man says, "Send me to earth, to tell my brothers about this place!" God says, "If they don't believe now, they won't believe even if you rose from the dead."
There you go! You know A LOT about hell. Although this could just be a parable, it is more likely to be a true story, because this would be the only parable where Jesus gives a character a name.
