So as many of you know, I have just recently posted a blog called Clarification, if you have not, I suggest you read it before this one.
So as I said in Clarification, arguments have run wild in the chatrooms lately. This would normally be fine, if it was a solid debate. Many of the people on here however, lack the skill and/or experience to properly debate. I will endeavor to explain the process of how to debate, and how NOT to debate.
First off is what not to do, most of the arguments that go on is what I like to call the "'You suck' 'No YOU suck'" arguments. What this means is instead of debating the topic at hand, you resort to insults directed at your opponent(s) to get your point across. This makes as much sense as selling your apartment to help pay the rent, since when does debate involve insults? The most common occurrence of this is when the topic at hand is a very diverse topic, such as religion, where almost everyone has different points of view, and each and every one of them convinced they are right. When this kind of arrogance is present, bad things are doomed to come, because instead of debating over the topic to attempt to persuade others to believe in your cause, instead people feel the need to spew hate comments at anyone who disagrees. The main thing you should learn to do is have an open mind, listen carefully to what your opponent has to say, then attempt to thwart him/her/them with factual evidence. Often times, you may not always be right.
For the ones who do know how to debate properly, I commend you, for it is not a common skill these days, and a skill almost never present in teens.
I can debate. Jeez, some of the arguments that happen here, though. I remember one about sexuality where an admin banned about 10 people in 5 minutes for profanity.
I can debate, and i admit coming to a stand-still in a debate with Galactic. it was Interesting, and not filled with Insults. it was very professional[as far as a 13 Vs. 14 yr old debate goes] and it was well worth it.
Thats stupid, tehjew. I hate when people argue over religion, and they all think they're right when none of them right anyway. No one religion is the perfect religion and not everyone has the same beliefs.
