The real Reo boomed, "We have come here to destroy the evil known as Darin Bloodfire. He-"
"Wait," the elder Reo stopped him. "There is a disturbance."
Then, Darin appeared in front of me. I grabbed the child and set him behind me. Darin lunged over me a cut the child across the face. He fell the ground. I scooped the child into my arms, kicked Darin away. I ran to the rock where the elder Reo was standing and set him down. I turned around with my swords drawn and hissed at Darin.
"Anyone here you're particularly attached to?" Darin walked and looked around at the other Reos.
"Why does it matter to you?" I was rather fumed at Darin for this.
"The child will die," Darin smiled. He called his Proto-drake, mounted it, and flew off. I yelled at the sky, "Damn that fool!"
"Zurilod," the elder Reo called. "Darin's blade was poisoned. He will not survive. Would you like to hold him?"
I nodded and walked to the small body. Reo passed the frail child to me, I sensed his small heart fluttering inside his chest.
"I am sorry, young one." I looked over the young child.
"I- It's okay." His eyes drooped and the green light of his eyes was slowly fading. He pulled off a small moon-shaped pendant and put it over my head.
"Kill that bastard," the child choked.
I laughed at the child's word, "I will do what I can." The child's body slumped in my arms. His heart gave out from the poison and his eyes stared blankly at the sky. I held the his limp body in my arms and set him on the rock. I closed his eyes and bowed my head. I said a few words of prayer, something I had not done in a very long time.
