Best friends. What makes one? If you look up best friend then you find that the official definition there is: a person you know well & regard with affection and trust. But many different people define it in many different ways. As small school children we tend to have a new best friend very frequently. But as we get older, we learn to be more exclusive with our trust, & our hoards of best friends gradually whittle down to just a few that we can trust if we're lucky. By the time we graduate from High School, the very lucky ones might have that one best friend that they can truly trust everything with. I'm the one of the luckiest. My best friend is like my sister, I've known her for 11 years, I've known her family for 20 years. The average person would give anything to protect someone they care for so much from being hurt, physically or emotionally. So what do you do if you're in MY situation? You consistently see your best friend hurt over & over again? What do you do if you have no choice but to sit back & do nothing but listen & be a shoulder to cry on? When you would give your life to change it & see a smile on there face for once? That's the situation I face every single day! I'd give my life to see my best friend happy, but every day, day in & day out, I see her hurt because of something. Whether it be something a guy has done to her, or a hardship life has dealt her, she's always being hurt in some way...I'd give my life to see her catch a break, for once. If you have ever felt this way, keep you head high, & let your best friend know that you're there no matter what. Let your best friend know that you will be there forever, no matter what happens. Remember, you can go to sleep tonight, but you never know what tomorrow will bring when you awaken.
Your blog made me think about torture methods used on my religion in foreign countries. Government officials would beat a person in front of their own friend to the point where not only the person being beaten, but also the person watching were both sobbing deeply. Usually, they would leave the person in terrible physical condition, with many bruises and wounds. It's even happened in America, so close to home before.
I think about these things every day... and it scares me.
It's taken me 15 years to find my BFF! She and I have NEVER fought, NEVER had a huge disagreement, and we've been BFFs for nearly three years. There's no tention or competition between us at all! I coaxed her out of an abusive friend relationship 'cause I knew she was unhappy. And we've been like two peas in a pod ever since! BFFs FOREVER! (yes it's redundant )
