In a Iwata Asks interview with Ryuji Umezu, Kenichi Sugino and Hideky Konno from Nintendo’s manufacturing department they clearly stated that the Nintendo 3DS was fully designed with all the disposable techniques, which means it was shrink to its maximum, making it really smaller than the DSi AND DS Lite, yes, the 3DS is very slightly smaller than the DS lite, but it is heavier than both DSi and DS Lite.
We can see it is very slightly smaller in the bottom and basically the same size in the topscreen (shell parts) the bottom screen is the same size of the DS Lite which is slightly smaller than the DSi screens, the bottom screen is closer of the screen flip if compared to a DS Lite. A B Y X are almost in the same place, the D-pad was put in the bottom and the slide pad took its place, but everything is closer to the screen if compared to a DS/i/Lite/xl. In the picture the 3DS is on the back, we can also see that it has these black little squares just like the DSi.
Nintendo in the future may come with a hardware update but this will hopefully take some time.
“This time it’s fully packed right from the start.”
Of course, we hope for a better battery life and an all angles 3D effect? who knows what might come in the next years!
“When making Nintendo 3DS, we used all our tricks for Nintendo DS Lite—and more—for cutting down on size right from the start”,
WIIDS thats nintendo at its sadest point. nintendo "You can take it on the go plug it in your tv and play people around the world with this big bulky white thing that cannot i reapeat CANNOT fit in your pocket. if it dies simply it as a paper weight! it has many features...."
sorry for haten on nintendo but a wiids just sounds plain dumb. but then again i could be terribly wrong and later be regretting saying this and be eating my own words!
