Hello peeps, I know pretty well some people have been wondering if they will have problems with the 3DS current performance with its original battery, the performance relatively close to the DSi 4 to 8 hours (max brightness, sound, playing a DS game, wireless on), the 3DS has play time of 3.5 to 5 hours (max brightness, max sound, playing a 3DS game, full 3D, wireless on).
Letting everyone remember the 3DS has a stronger brightness because of the 3D effect, (also for the bottom screen to match the top screen's light) so regardless of the brightness level it will be always brighter than the DSi's levels* we take as conclusion the 3DS holds a very strong battery providing almost the same play time of the DSi.
*(as: level 1 of the 3DS is brighter than DSi's 1 and so on.)
But people always wonder if we'll be able to upgrade the battery, i personally don't think it will be available soon but some companies have been working to provide new ways to increase the time the device can keep working without any power fount around.
This is Nyko's solution:
Nyko unveiled a new extensive battery you can attach to your 3DS, of course making it bulkier and heavier. But they also claim the extension has a new and comfortable better place for your fingers to grip, the actual performance is doubled according to Nyko, which means 7 to 10 hours of play (max brightness, max sound, playing a 3DS game, full 3D, wireless on).
But we, Geeks always have spare solutions for small problems related to gadgets and i will show you my solution.
Duracell powerhouse 2000mAh, is a portable battery device you can carry in your pocket and charge any device compatible with the mini USB technology, it is so powerful it can charge 2 devices at the same time. Wondering if the 3DS has a mini USB port? it doesn't. But thats not all.
With this cable you can plug it to the input USB port of the powerhouse charger and plug it on your DSi/3DS, since it is a 2000mAh battery this means it can double your 3DS performance and still has juice left!
You can simply charge your portable charger at home, put it in your pocket with the cable and take it out to charge your 3DS whenever you want! Comfortable isn't it?
Please note: As i made this "solution" by my own i have no idea if this works with a DSi/3DS (since both use the same charging system) because couldn't find any info on the device's voltage. (working to get more info)
But it is still something we can consider!
Now i ask you people, which device is better to upgrade your 3DS battery ?
Nyko's 3DS battery extension kit:
Pros:
- 2x more power time (7 to 10 hours)* - cheaper: 29,99$ USD (Charge Kit complete + with Power Pak+)
Cons:
- Makes the device Heavier, Bulkier.
*(max brightness, max sound, playing a 3DS game, full 3D, wireless on).
Duracell 2000mAh powerhouse + DSi USB charge Cable adapter
Pros:
- 2.55x more power (9 to 13 hours)* (approx. value)
- Easier to carry, not device extensive.
- Please not this device wasn't confirmed to have a compatible voltage with the 3DS/DSi
*(max brightness, max sound, playing a 3DS game, full 3D, wireless on).
Let the discussion begin!
And if anybody has the knowledge of the powerhouse charger voltage/compatibility with the DSi that serves since both 3DS/DSi use the same charging system!

Very nice blog, it was extremely detailed. If you really want to know both the amps and voltage, you should see a science teacher. They should have a Voltometer which measures amps volts and power.
