First up: A NEW (sales) RECORD! According to the NPD group, the 3DS was the fastest selling hand held system in North American history. This is surprising considering the amazing success of the DS, which is currently just shy of being they best selling system
ever. While they didn't provide any concrete numbers, they will be available on the 14th of April.
Possible Release Dates for Blockbuster Games: There are several big name games that have been given possible (and some confirmed), release dates and confirmations.
Kid Icarus has a rumored release date of May 6th, which was leaked by a Spanish Nintendo distributor. I'd like to remind you all to take this with a grain of salt for the time being.
Next up, we have Cave Story 3D, the remastered version of the indie classic, being given a confirmed release date of June 28th. This is slightly disappointing as they were going for a pre-E3 release, but that just leaves more development time to improve the game.
According to Nintendo UK marketing manager, James Honeywell, an Ocarina of Time 3D announcement will be coming soon:
“I know from personal experience of being on the sampling tours that the game everyone ran to was Zelda, to get their first experience of it in 3D, so we know it’s hotly anticipated, and hopefully we’ll be making an announcement fairly soon so people will be able to find out when they’ll be able to go and get it.”
Lastly, Mr. Honeywell also stated there's a possibility that Mario Kart 3DS will see a release here in 2011:
“That’s certainly what we’re kind of planning on at the moment. But you know, things can always change, and until we actually make a firm announcement about the release dates, obviously it’s good to wait and see what those dates might be.”
