If you know what noob is, I'm pretty sure you just thought "has gleeok been drinking?" Nop, i haven't.

If you are not familiarized with the term, i will clarify what i am trying to explain here for both un-familiarized and familiarized people.

The word "noob" used most times as slang to insult novice players or newcomers of communities and games (mostly mmorpgs, or with online interaction), with variants like "n00b" or "nawb" can be used in a non-rude way, open minded people will surely understand, and thats what define the different between "newbie" and "noob".

"Newbie or noob is a slang term for a novice or newcomer, or somebody inexperienced in any profession or activity. Contemporary use can particularly refer to a beginner or new user of computers, often concerning Internet activity, such as online gaming or Linux use. Using the word newbie on a descriptive way can be polite, and not rude at all, it describes the term without hurting the person which has it referred to.

So, basically if you get called of "newbie" the first association that comes to most people is "i was called of noob, thats an insult". Associating "newbie" with "noob" Is a mistake. Sadly, newbie isn't a very used term, maybe because most people aren't enough open-minded or polite, maybe because its a large word taking in consideration the actual way everyone type mainly while gaming, or in chatrooms to provide more flow to the conversation without giving too much time between responses and reactions, maybe both conclusions.

Taking in consideration the conclusions on why "newbie" isn't used, its very clear that using "newbie" doesn't merely mean what it is supposed to mean.

In fact it can mean a lot more

If the mentioned reasons really fit, its evident that with one word you can get a lot of information of the person you are talking to, it means that person is open-minded, it means that person is trying to be polite with you knowing you are a novice, so its pretty clear that the person will say "yes" if you politely ask him/her to help you out. It also means the person pays attention to details, it can also means the person was just trying to be polite with you and nothing more. A couple more suggestions may emerge, they may be right or wrong about who you are talking to.

Now, for novices:

The steps on how to be understood as a noob and that will eventually grow with time and become a pro, (raising your chances to be helped out by that open-minded person you have just met.) in a game for (for example) or making it easier to become known as a nice person in a community.

This first thing that might contribute with a bad image is misunderstanding the term "newbie" will also mean more than you think, may make you look what you don't want to look like. The first step to conserve a good image of yourself is to accept the fact that a novice in a community is a newbie, and that even if you get called of "noob" that will not essentially (but eventually most times) mean a bad thing, it may be just a description, its just the current group you are in, not a big deal?
