Earlier this week, I stumbled upon (not from the website, on my own) a news story which stated that over 20% of Americans shouldn't be driving due to bad skills or habits.
Now, first off, I realize that a good percent of the users on this site are too young to drive, and there's nothing wrong with that. So this is more directed at the ones who can legally drive, but it's a good blog for you to increase your knowledge regardless of age.
This didn't come to me as a surprise at all; I see it on the road frequently. But it has inspired me to make a blog.
So what are your driving skills like? Remember, you share the road. It's not you on a road and other people are just little bugs (although if you drive a larger vehicle it appears that way -- SPLAT!). And also remember the laws such as speed limits. Many people these days seem to utilize their math skills on speed limit signs by adding 10 to 15 miles per hour onto the set number, and they see the sum on their instrument panel in their dashboard.
Some driving habits really get to me, such as impatient people passing on the right shoulder when someone tries to get a left turn. This is a serious issue. Driving is not to be done in a hurry. If you're rushing, leave earlier next time.
These are just a few common errors. Also, when you're driving, don't pick up habits of other drivers. Just because many people do it doesn't mean it's right. You're accountable for your own actions on the road, so do everything properly.
My final advice to you is to take driving seriously, and be a safe and courteous driver.
"Atomic batteries to power! Turbines to speed!"
"Roger, ready to move out!"
Na na na na na na na na na - BanMan!
I'd say I'm a fairly good driver. The tatistic that a fifth of all drivers here in the US have poor driving skills doesn't surprise me, but it does sadden me.
@Nope: You drive here? Jeez, bravery. XD Dodging the CTA is funz. oFTo
As a cyclist, I agree with this Blog. You have to share the road. Bike Lanes are idiotic, we get doored always! Legally, we have the right to take the lane-space of 1 automobile.
On a side note, I have given teh finger to a few motorists, and been pulled over by one. If you nearly hit me, then call me a anus, don't expect me too be all smiles.
If I followed the rules of the road every time I had to drive in places like Milwaukee, Madison, or even when I go to Chicago, the other drivers would kill me.
