This is part 2 of my blogs covering Nintendo's E3 conference.
WiiU
This was the biggest reveal of E3. There were rumors for several weeks of Nintendo's next console being tablet based, which weren't completely incorrect. The wii U uses the table-esque device as its controller. The tablet controller has an absolute plethora of features and buttons. It was given the blessing loved by many hardcore gamers: dual analog control sticks, along with many other standard buttons for more traditional gameplay. It also has an accelerometer and gyroscopes to allow for accurate motion controlled gameplay, as well as a rear facing camera (a la the 3DS.) The camera's use during gameplay allows the tablet to become a subtle, yet powerful window through which to supplement gameplay.
However, the biggest addition that the tablet controller brings to the table is that the games that you play through the console can be played through the tablet, and information from the game (such as football plays in Madden games) can be streamed through the tablet's 6.5 inch screen. Basically, the Wii U console wirelessly to the tablet with no delay (when within a reasonable distance). So no, this can not be used as a portable gaming device (there's the 3DS for that purpose.)
The device also has greatly improved graphical capabilities, far surpassing most games of this generation even though the games won't be released for at least another year.
This image is a bit muddy, I apologize
Lastly, the Wii U is able to play all wii games and make use of all of the Wii's accessories such as the Balance Board and Wii Remote. It even allows to to play Wii games through the tablet as with Wii U games.
One problem with recent Nintendo system has been that 3rd Party support hasn't always been as good as it could have been. The Wii U looks to rectify this, having plenty of core-minded games ranging from Ninja Gaiden 3 to Darksiders 2 seeing release on it. There is even a new Mario game title "New super Mario Mii" releasing on the system, which allows you to play as your Miis in this platforming adventure.
This concludes this blog. Comment on what you liked and disliked about Nintendo's presentation. What did you wish they'd shown, Mother 3 notwithstanding.
