This blog is kind of a mix. It's a review, interesting facts, and history lesson about the 3DS Virtual Console Game: Super Mario Land
Super Mario land was a Gameboy game released in... Come on, take a wild guess... No?
I'll give you a hint, most of you just stayed up all night recently on that same date
Moving on, it was the very first game, next to Tetris, made for the Gameboy, hence the reason it was released first on Virtual Console.
The game took less than a minute to download, and it cost only $3.99. The original graphics (minus the greenish background) were restored in black and white. Of course, the original sound is also included.
The game is included with a "Virtual Console" menu, which adds a special treat to those who keep getting game overs. This particular menu actually saves the game! (in more of a book mark fashion)
Too bad it's only one slot.
And there's no auto-save.
So, not only this game was to be the first to be released for Gameboy and Virtual Console, but it also, as hinted above, released on...
June, 7, 1989!!!!! (In Japan)
Now we know why it was released that day. Or it was a coincidence.
Also, a small fun-fact, when you hold the select button while the game is loading (and I can't believe I actually stumbled across this so quickly), it restores the original resolution (VERY small screen -.-), and it shows the screen in an image of a Gameboy, making it look like a Gameboy is really playing it.
Well, that about wraps it all. I don't know about you all, but I'm a sucker for old games like these. And this was my favorite childhood game on my old Gameboy (I still have both the game AND the Gameboy to this very day). Therefore I HIGHLY recommend this game to be downloaded.
my family has kept every single game system that they got to this very day, and so, i have nintendo systems down to the nes, and i THINK there was a super mario land for the snes but im not sure
