"Wake up, damn you!" Reo's voice split into the darkness of my sleep. I sat up and Reo put a finger to his lips, hushing me. Outside, a tall shadow stood against the side of the tent. I could smell smoke and saw the flashes of fires illuminating the figure. Gurgling screams of the druids rang in the air.
I stood from the bed and grabbed my dual blades. Reo led the way from the tent and around the side. I caught a glimpse of the beast that was terrorizing the encampment. It stood nearly ten feet tall and from the feet up, it had goat-like legs; furry and cloven. The torso was a normal blood elven body but the arms were furred and had claws instead of fingers. From the back, two bat wings were extended to there full span making the beast look larger and intimidating. The face, however, was one I did expect.
"Darin," I whispered almost silently. At that, Darin turned his head toward me and smiled. He dropped the night elf druid he had just finished disembowling and started stalking toward me.
Reo grabbed my arm at that moment. "Go! Run to the mountain! Find a cave!" I obeyed and summoned my death charger, heading for any shelter or cave I could find. From horseback, I saw Darin grab Reo and fling him away as if he were discarding a piece of parchment.
Farther away, I found a cave in the side of a rocky hill and dismounted. I slid inside and moved to the back of the cave. I waited. My breath steamed in front of me and I listened to anything that might come near or try to enter the tight space.
"Who are you?" a voice commanded behind me. I froze and my grip on my dual swords tightened. Something hooked into my back and turn me around. A burning sensation ripped through my body and I could not supress a yell of pain but I savored the feeling as I had not felt anything since I was given my soulfire. "Tell me your name!" the voice repeated.
