Last night I had to fire every one of the Affiliate Link admins. None of them were doing their jobs. Here is what I found in my TWO HOURS of going over the links:
1. There were about 140 links that had not been reviewed.
2. Pornographic links had been approved.
3. Numerous duplicated links had been approved.
4. Around 75% of approved links were to dead, non-existent, or under construction, websites.
5. Several approved websites were obviously not created by the person submitting them (i.e. FaceBook, Google, Hatena, etc.).
6. Several approved websites had nothing to do with the Wii, DSi, or 3DS.
I will be looking for a new team of Affiliate Link admins. Please do not beg for this position, as that will automatically disqualify you.
Other admin positions will probably be audited in the near future, so make sure you are doing your job, or someone else may get the chance to do it for you.
This is a big problem beacuse then thoes admins are not doing what is supposed to be done. Illegal website links could bring dsipaint down. Im glad you took action now. But you are too slow. Most of the inappropriate links could have been avoided if someone took action earlier. Please pick a better bunch of admins for the links.
Would you people get off the pornography topic already?!
Anyway,They should be grateful that hull gave them the job instead of someone who would do a much better job.Sorry to those admins who lost they're jobs that were actually DOING their job. Like commander and halli.
How unfortunate. o-o
And my 3DSPlaza link was removed from there & from my own profile D: I wonder why... I re-submitted the link and put it back on my profile, please anyone tell me if it's wrong.
Ontopic: Woah lazy admins! But how typical:
- User wants to be popular
- User sees admins/ mods are popular
- User want to be mod/ admin
- User gets to be one
- User only uses powers for showing off...
Wow...That does not happen too often. When I saw the blog title I thought "Oh, great. Something bad happened with the database" Then I read it...Thats uncommon.
I noticed this, I like to check other DSi Websites, and these Admins needed to do there jobs better. I'm also COMPLETELY agreeing with both of Waffleking's comments; They just want fame =.=
I also agree with RedMist (I'm not trying to get this power, I was just curious of to what happened to I checked it out) It seems like half the websites are either dead, or my computer reads them as viruses.
The admins really need to review those links before they do something! If they think its porn, just do a quick view-source of the website for anything suspicious. People shouldn't be submitting those things anyways.. :S
Commander, considering how bad the Affiliates section was, I doubt any of them were doing anything. What their reason was for not doing it, whether it be they couldn't, wouldn't, or didn't, is not what matters. The fact is that the job was not being done, so now Hull found people that would do it.
First off, shutup about the pornography already! We get it! Jeez, it's like listening to a bunch of sheep. Just repeating what the first guy said about it doesn't make the topic more pleasant.
Second, I deleted several comments that were bashing admins a little too harsh. You have to remember, some affiliated links admins -cough- suffered the consequence of someone else's wrong-doing.
You all should be talking about how to fix the problems, not spamming "OH WOW PORNOGRAPHY" or "ADMINS ARE JERKS".
Understood?
Good.
Ram, they're just having fun yelling "PORNOGRAPHY?!" over and over. Like how, when admins say "ass" is not a ban worthy word, everyone starts spamming "ASS" in the chatroom.
Well, I can tell they got lazy. Lazy doesnt get the job done, I mean, my job as a BBmin is hard to a point, But at least do your job. Otherwise Get deadmined. Its sad..
Admiral, people like chat mod because it means they're always right. Ever notice this? Whenever people ban for "admin disrespect," it's always for disrespecting the admin that banned them. You don't see bans for people bashing admins behind their backs, now do you?
The only job that everyone wants is chat mod. No one wants any other job, besides maybe blog or BB mod. The only reason people liked the jobs in the first place was because they got a color with it, and they could use it in a way to show who's "cool" and who's a "noob." Between Chat mod, Blog mod, and BB mod a little, you have the power to assert your presence over a certain part of the website, thus making it "yours." Other jobs are simple flip-and-click things that they're too lazy to do, plus there is little to no fame for it. So they blow it off. Simple as that. At least, that's what I think. I'm not saying ALL admins are like this, either.
I check the Affliates page quite often, and go to the websites when I see them. I did notice how there were duplicates. And I saw there was a Minecraft fourm posted. Uh, okay? Not related at all.
I had sumbmitted my website about a month ago, and constantly checked Affliates to see if mine was up yet. And the other night when you(HullBreach) were cleaning up the site, I assume you accepted it because now it's up.
The first time I looked into the affiliated links, I spent about an hour skimming through them.
Cleaned them up.
Ever since, I've been doing that every other day or two, doing it in bulks of 10 or so, and my standards are strict. 1 out of 50 links I go through are submitted.
Sometimes (but not as much as I shoulve been) I will skim submitted links and keep note of dead or fraud links. I kind of just keep an eye on "Under constructions", as my websites were submitted under the same circumstances. Needless to say, dead or fraud (or some cases, pornographic) are deleted.
Lately I've been busy with a whole bunch of crap in real life. I apologize for letting it out of hand.
Wow... I was just talking to an admin that I'm god friends with the other day who DOES her job, and I was saying that people who beg for admin positions don't realize that admins have JOBS ON HERE. They're popular, yes, but they have more responsability, too. They have to work regularly when they get on SDK to do they're jobs, even when they might not feel like it. These admins were NOT doing their jobs when they didn't feel like it. Thank the admins who do they're jobs, guys, and remember admins have to work. It's not a position that's there to make you popular.
