I seen threads get posted in the Miscellaneous forum like this for example, "Names for a cat" and then you when you reply something like "This shouldn't be here as it's off-topic and you can make a somewhat lengthy blog asking for help on names that people will suggest for your cat." (Though I believe that being a blog won't get accepted if you submitted it for news. Anyways.)
They will reply back with something like "Well this can go here, as it says in the description that anything off-topic can be posted here."
I noticed many users get the wrong meaning and misinterpret the meaning of off-topic. Just because it says that anything off-topic can be posted there it doesn't mean it literally. You post threads of which it's topic doesn't fit in any other forum and the thread still has to have a point of topic that can be discussed and talked about (Not including thread games).
For example if you are going to post a thread and it's topic is about a book that you really like, since you can't post it in any of the other forums you should post it in the Miscellaneous forum where in this sense it'll belong. But it doesn't mean to make the first post "This book is becoming available such and such date. Discuss." No, that's not going to work, try makeing it where people can infer something off your post and discuss it themselves if they have read it or even give a summary about the book so people who havn't read it can get interested and maybe read it themselves. Make sense?
Hopefully this'll help clarify it for some of the users who have been confused by the meaning of off-topic in this forum. Though the chances of one those users reading this isn't that likely.
If you wan't I could do it, you just got to give a back story to how you got the cat give information while leading up to the question asking for a name for it in the blog.
I just don't see how you could possibly create an entire blog asking for a name for your cat. "I don't know what to name my cat. Help please." Theres not really anything else you could wright.
If the miscellaneous forum get deleted, then for the sake of the BB's all the rest may as well get deleted too. Because I could only imagine how bad the other forums would get without the Miscellaneous.
Suprisingly, the miscellaneous forum went a whole day with out spam, off-topic, and etc. threads.
I agree but I once made a thread about the website 'Pottermore' It was quite lengthy for a bb post and had some good discussion starters then some bbmin came along and locked it saying it belonged in 'affilate sites' I hink that was rubbish, 'Pottermore' isn't DSi formated therefore not an affilate to this site. Just saying.
