This tutorial was written assuming you have at least basic control over HTML, PHP and SQL/MySQL. If you're in need of lessons over these programming languages, head over to w3schools and Tizag.

Now before we do anything else, we need to set up a database table for the ban data to be put into.

I think most of that is self explanatory, except maybe for the length. All that field is for is to tell the banned user how long they were banned for.

Okay, let us move on and create the HTML form to submit the ban data.

In the select drop down list, we give each option tag a value of the number of seconds equal to the displayed text. For example, the first ban time is 1 hour, so as the value in the option tag, we input 3600. You can add or change these values equal to whatever you want as the ban times, I just showed some examples. The Unban option will insert the text "Unban" into the ban table. We'll make use of that later.

After that we have a text box to type in who you're banning.

Lastly, we have a text area for the Moderator or Admin to give the reason for their banning of a particular user. In fact, I think we'll set it so that the reason text area must contain text for the ban to be successful.
