I meant to write this yesterday.
Yesterday (Sept 12) was Neil Peart's birthday.
Some of you may know him as the drummer from Rush.

Neil Peart is one of my biggest influences, and one of my heroes. He is my hero not because he is the world's fricken awesomest drummer, but because his words have taught me how to live even through the toughest moments of my life.

"Some would say they never fear a thing, well I do. And I'm afraid enough for both of us; for me and you. Time, if nothing else, will do it's worst. So do me a favor and tell me the good news first."

In 1997, shortly after completing the Rush album "Test For Echo", Neil received tragic news from a cop knocking on his door one night (as explained in his book Ghost Rider) that his daughter (19 at the time) passed away in a car crash.
His wife didn't take it so well. She went spiraling to her own grave from depression (and cancer) 10 months later.
By now, very sad, and already retired from Rush, he went through a life changing journey, which he revolves his book "Ghost Rider" around.

"Consider me retired."

During his journey, armed with only his motorcycle and anything he could fit in his saddle bags, he has encountered many things (including hitting a deer), visited many places, and met many people.
After his journey, after he found himself, he rejoined his closest friends, Geddy and Alex in 2001. They made their "reborn" album "Vapor Trails" and toured the world.

"As the years went by, we drifted apart. When I heard that she was gone, I felt the shadow cross my heart, but she's nobody's hero."

I will always look up to him as my hero, my inspiration, my influence in many things such as writing and music, and the reason I'm probably alive right now.
His words have helped me in my darkest hours. He has taught me a lot about the true meaning of life, love, and philosophy.

Neil Peart is still alive and still playing and writing for Rush.
