There once was a young man who lived not far from here. Him and his wife lived in a box.
One day the man built a house for his wife and him. Piece by piece the house grew until they had a house that made the richest man envy.
They lived in the house for years, until his wife died.

Needless to say, the man was sad. He wept at her side during the funeral.
when he got home, he built a room dedicated to her memorial. He placed all her most prized possessions in it.
Building the house took his mind off her, so he kept building and building. Eventually, tourists would stop to observe the craftsmanship.
The man did not care. He kept on building.
Eventually, people started hanging out in the house. But the man did not care. He built them all entertainment rooms and bars.
Eventually, people started living in the house. But the man did not care, he built them rooms of all kinds, at their requests. He added bathrooms and kitchens at every whim the people demanded. He built 302 rooms.
He built 417 chairs and 91 tables.
He painted 116 of the room he has built, while 96 were wallpaper.

For 30 long years he has built a house that stretched 1520 acres.

Still people live in his house that he built. All this time, he slept in a shack just a small walk away from the house.
His death was so silent, nobody even knew about it until they realized that the house no longer grew.
So now they sleep, in an house of wonders that was built with a broken heart.

The story of that is, Sarah Winchester, husband of gun maker William Winchester, was told from a medium that she must build a house and keep building and to never stop otherwise the spirits that killed her family, would come and kill her too. So she hired people to build and build, with mazes and secret passages to confuse all of the spirits so that they would never find her.

The house itself is amazing, I have been there twice and took two different tours of it, and each time you see something different.

Wait wait wait, California has something interesting to offer? [besides horrid sequels and remakes? ;D]
