English is actually a much simpler language than many. It lacks genders, has simple conjugations, and doesn't use many of the complex structural rules of other languages for moods, reflexive pronouns, and cases.

Compare this to Russian with 6 cases, Korean with intonations changing meaning, some ancient languages in North America that have 6 genders, on even some central African languages that have twice the phonemes of European languages.

Speaking with our hearts would be perfect...I agree.

I know two teachers in the town south of us, who were fired recently (this school year) because they refused to learn Spanish....they were math and science teachers. This is being forced...you just have to open your eyes. It is happening all over the country....this is why people are so angry.

Not to sound insensitive, but what's done is done. Instead of ranting about how things should have happened, try to change how things might happen. Zeus here wrote a blog because he felt a way. Juan, you are missing the point entirely...(why am I not surprised). You wouldn't like it if I came to your house and said, I want you to pay me $5000 to teach you and your family and everyone else in your town to learn my language weather you want to or not, and if you don't learn my language, then I am going to fire your mom and dad from their jobs and kick you out of school. The reason people are so against Spanish in this country is because Spanish speaking peoples are forcing that language into our lives and asking us to pay for the expense of learning it, and for the expense of the teaching materials. Now, I agree with you that I should do something about my dying language....and I do...I use it and teach I teach it....for free to those who WANT to learn it. But I don't force it down their throats because this country's government was founded by English speaking people. England in the mother country of this country, not Spain, not France, not Italy, not Russa, etc .

People can speak what ever language they want to as long as they don't take taxpayer money and use it for teaching said language.

What if we had to print tax forms for all of the 6825 languages that exist today....what about 6825 different Driver's Ed manuals, how about 6825 sets of instruction for putting a toy together...you'd have roughly 12000 pages for just two pages of instruction. Do you think that printing all those languages for you 3DS would make it's price go up expedentially. Example: A 3DS right now costs about $169 and it comes with a 1" thick instruction booklet in 3 different languages. ....If we do what you are suggestion, "being fair" by printing the instructions so everyone could read it in their own language....Your 3DS would then come in a box that is 189 feet tall, it would weigh roughly 1.137 tons, and at $5 per instruction booklet it would cost aproximately $11,539 to buy it. And my hard earned taxes that I pay faithfully will go up because I have to help someone learn how to play with a toy.....shameful that anyone is so dumb to think there is honor in this.... In addition, look at all the trees you would waste and destroy for just those examples.

If I go to another country to live, I would need to learn that language, not because of law, but out of respect for the people and their country....I expect the same from anyone who comes to this country. Learn English or get out!

Alright, Juan, you little brat....here's the thing, I am Lakotah, Tsalagi, Chowctaw and Chickasaw. Since you know nothing about much of anything from what I have seen from you over the last year..., that means I am a NATIVE AMERICAN!!!

Let's get some things straight.
I clearly said that I used Google Translate because I was NOT fluent.
Second, I wrote this myself. I even have it in my iPhone.
How am I a race baiter? If I feel that something is not right then I'm going to speak my mind about it. If I'm wrong, Oh well. It's my opinion and frankly I really don't care what you or others think about me, since I live my life for myself.

Meh. I pretty much agree with Neon. You. Can't just come to America and not expect to pay a price, with the price being learning the basics of English. It's only natural.

Wow guys, I don't know which blog you're reading, but nowhere anywhere does this say that only white people are racist, so you can stop shoving words into his mouth like idiots. And I kind of agree, I mean you should know some english, like a decent amount to get by, but you shouldn't need to be perfectly fluent as if it was your first language or anything. I don't know how many americans know a second language, but it's not that easy to just learn one, especially when you're older. The best time to learn a language is when you're a kid and that part of your brain is still developing. Is America scared of culture?

While I agree that a person who comes here from another country shouldn't be forced to be fluent in English to live here, I do feel that they should speak passable English to get a job, if they don't then how are they going to communicate?

Yeah, it can look that way, especially seeing as the most radical are the most prominent.

I know the grammar is broken I wrote it myself and I'm not fluent in writing but I'm great in speaking it.

My friend Jose had to go through this when he lived in Texas an I wrote it from his prospective.

Yes I am, and that's part of it.

First, I doubt that somebody who teaches a language wrote the spanish letter, because the grammar is so horrendously broken.
Second, as a Mexican living in Texas, this has never been part of my experience. I'm not saying that it couldn't happen, but I've never even really heard of it happening, past or present.

Not having an official language causes problems. While it is legal to speak a different language, English is the official language of the United States.

In the letter he say he was on his way to English lessons. It's REALLY hard to learn another language.

Though I agree here, but only to a certain extent. As I'm not being racist, but English is the main language in America, so it is more so of a wise option for a few to learn this language instead of everyone switching to forsay.. Japanese just because some Japanese people decided to move here. To add on to that, If I were to do the same and move to (another example) Russia, I'd learn Russian as that is the language most spoken there.
However, what I just said doesn't come down to who believes there country is better or language, race, etc.

i'm not being rasist when i say this but, america was made by ENGLISH settlers. besides, if you only spoke spanish most things have a spanish part that you can read that, i think, say the same exact stuff that the english stuff says. so i don't think there is much of a need to learn a different language, if you've spoken it your whole life you can live without learning a forieghn(i know, its spelt wrong) language.
