The leaping flames leapt above me, trying to force me and my baby girl to stay. The swirling black smoke was thicker and heavier than any blanket smothering them.
Shanay's cries started too stop and receded into quiet sobs and her body went from squirming to just trembling in my hands.
"C'mon baby girl, stay with me now," i covered her mouth with a washer, making sure she could still breath.
The front and back door were hidden by the fierce fire, blocking any simple way out.
The alarms were still squealing, but were just a mutter between the roar of flames that echoed in my ear.
I took to the laundry, stepping over the flames that nipped at the soles of my feet. Blistering heat made sweat roll down my forehead ike a waterfall.
The laundry had no flames inside yet, though the dancing devils were inches away from the doorway.
The silhouette of a man stood outside the small window above the washing board. I sat on top of a carton and opened the window.
There stood her husband, his mouth in a twisted sick smile.
"Please. Take the baby. Please,"I begged. My husband held out his hands impatiently and I squeezed Shanay's small, delicate handbefore passing her too him.
"You bought this upon yourself girl,"he snarled spitting in my face.
"Better think the next time you go sneaking around with another man behind my back.... Oh wait, there won't be another time, will there?"he cackled, giving Shanay a sloppy kiss on her forehead.
"No! Please Jaque! You don't understand!" I pound on the inner edge of the window, cutting myself whilst I was at it.
"Goodbye Marie. Goodbye foreve..." he turned on his foot, Shanay peeking over his shoulder in confusion, without ever turning back.
"Dear Lord, Please forgive my sins and allow me too join you when I die tonight... Amen,"I pray and sit down, waiting for death too come and take me...
