Dating antiques is not always hard, in fact it can be extremely easy. One of the best methods for dating them is to look for a date. Often, products and items are stamped or inked with a date on them. Suppose you find an old desk. Take a look around it, and you may find something like "1861" on it. If that's so, you probably have the date of the antique.

Another easy way to do antique dating is to use your knowledge (which may be harder to obtain) of antiques. Learning what time period items were made in, if it was a fairly short period, can be very useful. This way, you can simply take a look at the item and know how old it is. Depending on its span of production, you can have either a precise date or a general date.

The last method of dating antiques we'll look at is examining the materials and style. For example, you'll find plastic in more modern items whereas there will be more thin metal or wood in older items. The style is also a good way to tell the age of something, as long as it is a true original and not a modern copy.

Maybe you will come across an antique someday and will want to know how old it is. And maybe not.
