The mystical talking cross. (almost as mystical as Zoey, almost :p) Is it a real artifact? Which religion did it originate, and most importantly, does it still exist?
History The history of the cross dates back towards the middle of te Spanish conquest. The myth around this cross is that during the Mayas darkest hour, the cross told them to go attack the Spanish in large numbers. Another myth is that the tired Spanish soldiers rebelled against the over-paid leaders and used the talking cross (Maya religion was very similiar to Christianity.) as a way to convince the mayans to fight with them. Thats the significants of the cross. The cross is also supposedly the bridge between god and man. Gods voice rang through the cross to tell the Maya people to take back their land.
I've noticed that religion always gives hope. And that hope always turns out to help humanity. Then again, religions the reason for numerous acts of prejudice. Thats not the topic though.
The talking cross has 3 main ideas on where its hidden. The maya people claim to have the cross. They say that only pure maya people may ever view it with their eyes. Another claim is that they hid it in South America. South America is known for its wet underground wells, and the myth is that 12 priest and 10 children hid it deep in the darkest trench. The last claim is that it was burned. Some people had claimed that the reasons the maya stopped attacking was because their cross was burned, mayans argue and say that the true reason was because it rained. The rain was a sign from their rain god telling them it was time to plant crops.
All in all I believe the talking cross exist. I'm an Athiest, but having studied this topic I have been amazed by the detail some people went into this. Overall, the talking cross will always strein our minds.
