My 3DS is possessed!

Hello, there. I need help :^(

Last weekend I logged on to the eShop and saw a new section, the new section held demos!

Demos are new to the eShop so I was excited. I saw a Sonic and Mario demo and I'm a bit of a sonic fan so I knew I just had to try it out and thought that the other demo, Resident Evil, would provide some awesome 3D graphics so I started to download RE, first. 

I tried to download the app on the eShop, but it didn't fully download there, I expected that so I pressed the power button then the home button and let the RE app download there. Went back to the eShop and tried downloading the S&M (lol) demo, the same thing happened so I let the S&M demo download on the home menu as well.

I'm not sure about this but I'm pretty sure both S&M and RE demos ask for more blocks (memory) than a regular app so I was sort of worried about this.

Could my 3DS handle downloading 2 demos at the same time?

I truly believe I have horrible luck  so I knew something would mess up.

I let both apps download for 40-60 minutes, then opened my 3DS and a window popped informing me that the RE app failed to download, as I feared would happen, so I clicked on the option that takes me back to the eShop to redownload and I got another window pop that informed me of an error with my SD card, something about not being able to detect my SD card.

I got confused so I turned off my 3DS.

Feeling frustrated, I turned on the 3DS and saw that ALL of my apps (except a DSiWare Zelda app, which I despise) were missing from my home menu.

On and off I turn my 3DS but the apps never showed up! My heart sank but I decided to investigate so I went to the settings and headed straight to the section that deals with my SD card's data. It showed that my app data was still in my SD, so I was relived. I'm sure that was signs that my 3DS could in fact detect my SD card and its data.

I exited the settings, turned off the 3DS, prayed a little and turned the 3DS back on and the apps were STILL missing!

I didn't understand. I was feeling helpless but refused to call Nintendo so what was I to do? I went to the Internet, of course!

I tried to find out what I could've done to mess this up but I couldn't find anything. I didn't pull the SD card out while the demos were downloading, my 3DS hasn't had a bad fall in weeks (I accidentally launched my 3DS off of my bed with my blanket, that was its first fall</3) but I doubt that that could've affected my 3DS in the long run.

The only solution I found was to format (erase) the memory on my SD card. I didn't want to do that :'^(

I had to do it, whether I wanted to or not. I asked mom to buy me an SD card reader cus my computer sucks.

The SD card reader arrived yesterday (Friday) so I logged onto my computer feeling pumped. I didn't care anymore! Imma erase the crap out of my SD card! ;^D

I was SO excited to restart my Fire Emblem app!

Last night (Friday), I scanned for problems, had no problems/errors, and formatted  my SD card. Added just one song to check if my SD card was working. 

It was!

I truly felt that I could get passed this stress inducing first world problem! 

I had hope...

Fast forward to this morning. I finally started to redownload the apps that I cared about the most.

I downloaded the SwapNote and Nintendo Video app without a problem. I then continued to download the Pokédex app. I had to unfortunately apply the downloading process I did to the S&M/RE demos to this Pokédex, Fire Emblem, and the Ambassador apps but unforetunately, the Ambassador app failed at 4%... My future seemed bleak.

At this point, the Pokédex app was at 31% and my beloved Fire Emblem app was at 4% and I was feeling frustrated. Why were my apps taking sooo long to download!?

2 hours passed and I wanted to smash the absolute shizznit out of this plastic junk with a hammer but I didn't.

I took a sip out of mommy dearest's wine, took a deep breath, calmed down, and reopened my 3DS.

My heart sank yet again... My 3DS screen was completely black! Black as black can be.

I got angry. Closed my 3DS. Reopened it. Still black. Closed it, opened it, black, then turned it off. 

I then turned on my iPod and started writing this unnecessarily long essay on my iPod notes app and after the 4th paragraph I reopened my 3DS. It was black again but went back to normal after 8-10 seconds and I felt good. However, my 3DS now takes around 2 painfully long seconds to show the front page. Sometimes around 3-4 evil seconds.

The Fire Emblem (25%) and Pokédex (51%) still haven't finished downloading so I'm still worried.

What do you guys think about this horrible situation that I am stick in? I need your opinions.

Is there a chance that there may be something wrong with my Nintendo 8 GB SD card? Or is my 3DS the problem? I got it a month or two after it was released.

I would really appreciate opinions or stories if any of you have had this problem before.

Is there still hope for me? Has God left me? Is this karma, doing her job? 

All I want to do is play Fire Emblem...

Bahaha get the iiNet 1 Terabyte plan (Australia) It's beast, takes me 10 minutes to download something around 1.5 Gigabytes

Lol, it's called "Download later" it downloads the games while in sleep mode, and by the sounds of it, WM didn't have it in sleep mode.. .-.

When you say "10-20 minutes", do you mean on the eShop or...?

I usually wait 3-5 minutes for the app to download, if it doesn't, I press the power button then the home button to let the app finish downloading.

Do you ever have to resort to this?

ok dude. redguster your 3ds on club nintendo and it should give you a 90 warranty (just enter the code on back of the system itself). then SEND IT TO NINTENDO!!! have u used any flash carts with it? if so, that might be why it was messing up. but dont buy a new system. the ambassador program us so awesome. i wish i had a 3ds

Umm, when did I say it was fine? -_-

My 3DS did have problems (how severe, I do not know, I'm not an expert) but I'm not stressed and deadly worried about it. My previous comment was to assure people that I wasn't so hurt about it.

Okay, this is not a problem at all. All you need to do is to call Nintendo (1-800-255-3700) They'll might ask you to send in your 3DS to them using Fedex (Just like I did two days ago). Nintendo is going to ask you to tell them your charger number. Then, they'll ask you to pack your charger and your charging cradle. Do not pack your SD Card, Stiles, and your game card. At least if they ask you to bring it. Then you pack it to them. They'll also give you a repair number to see how your 3DS is doing at Nintendo. Then later, their going to send you the instructions on how to pack it to them. It's easy, don't worry! You might also want to look for a Fedex near you before you start packing your 3DS to them. (The Fedex location map will include in the Support e-Mail). Follow the instructions carefully and you'll do fine. It's easy and simple. The rest, I'm going to leave it up to Nintendo to help you pack. Don't be scared to send them your 3DS. It will be fine. If you have any questions, let me know!

You turned off the 3DS while it was writing/reading SD card data and corrupted the whole thing! This is why all the problems started, i don't know whats going on after the formatting and stuff. Might be what Weegee suggested, you are using the wrong format.

You didn't have to format or redownload anything. This happened to me, and I just copied the files from the SD to the computer, then on to another SD.

I don't have a 3DS.
I'm not allowed one.
Apparently "it damages your eyes".
I'm 10, and Nintendo says it's OK for people over 6.
Anyways, I don't know what to do.

Your SD Card may have a fragmented filesystem causing it to process files slowly, try running a defrag on it through your computer.

Alternatively, you could purchase a new SD Card with a faster transfer speed (Eg. Sandisk Ultra SD Card, it has a 15Mb/s transfer speed).

Or email them, they respond back VERY fast, (a real person replies within a few days) but the emails seem to be just links to the support page and little were sorry notes.

So yeah, call them.

Or reformat your whole 3DS.

I don't know about the SD Card though. It took a while for my M&S demo to download, too.
