Well, I think I've finally seen enough discrimination against the loyal, beautiful, and energetic Pitbulls. You've probably heard about BSL (Breed Specific Legislation). In some places, BSL has already been enforced on Pitbulls. In other words, they are banned completely from those specific places. All Pitbulls found are seized and euthenized.Why, you ask? Because the irresponsible dog owners who train their dogs to fight, backed by the media, has built quite a bad reputation for the strong and faithful Pitbull. But are these dogs really blood-thirsty monsters?

First of all, BSL is a very costly law to try to enforce, and most often unaffective. If Pitbulls should be banned, those irresponsible breeders that train their dogs to fight and be aggressive are simply going to move on to another dog breed, such as German Shephards, Doberman Pinschers, or Rottweilers. This would lead to a constant battle between BSL and illegal dog breeders. If this pattern continued, it could possibly rid our world of dogs completely.

A very important fact here is that the statement "Pitbulls are more aggressive than any breed of dog" is an absolute, complete myth. A research group in Gerogia tested more than 25,000 dogs based on stability, shyness, aggression, and friendliness when interacting with people/children. Get this: 84% of the Pitbulls tested passed the test with flying colors, which puts them ahead of Beagles, Airedales, Bearded Collies, and all but one variety of Dachshund. Another statement that is a myth is that Pitbulls have the strongest jaws of all dog breeds. The average domestic dog's jaws can force 320 psi. of pressure. The Pitbull starts maxing out at just 235 psi.

Think that Pitbulls attack more than other dogs? Guess again. More people get bitten by small dogs such as Pomeranians, Toy Poodles, and Chihuahuas than Pitbulls. A Pitbull attack gets more media attention because of their reputation given to them by the stupid breeders that train their dogs to fight. The smaller dogs don't get noticed for just that reason: They're smaller. "Oh, they're just afraid." Is the common excuse. Well, Pitbulls are no different from these small dogs. They get scared, too. It's not like they don't feel anything but anger and aggression. If the dog is aggressive, how is it the dog's fault? They didn't choose for their life to revolve around fighting and pain and aggression. Their owner chose that for them. Instead of punishing the dogs by taking their life, or the responsible Pitbull owners by ripping their friends/family out of their arms, why not spend more time cracking down on these heartless people who make these dogs fight for their own greed and money?



If you ask me, BSL on Pitbulls (or any other breed of dog) is similar to the Holocaust. In the Holocaust, about 6 million Jews were killed because of their religion. Now, Pitbulls are being murdered because of their breed. How is this any different from the Holocaust? It's still a mass-murder of a certain group due to something they entirely have no say in. It isn't fair... not at all.
Every dog is different and unique. They have their own traits, strengths, weaknesses, wants, needs, and fears. To judge a whole breed of dog based on a few is completely wrong. I know quite a few friends that have Pitbulls. I have NOT, ever been bitten by a Pitbull. I HAVE been bitten by a Rottweiler and a Poodle. No dog should be judged by its breed. Its like being racist against a certain type of dog.
Why do we spend our time being prejudice against Pitbulls instead of taking a look at the monster on the other end of the leash, the irresponsible dog owner? The ones who made them that way? A dog is only aggressive if they have been raised to be that way, or if they have been misstreated. It isn't just Pitbulls, either. ANY dog can be aggressive. Not just one specific breed... ALL dogs. Pitbulls have been targetted because of their reputation. The media isn't helping much by making sure a Pitbull attack gets all over the news. Hundreds of dog bites happen every day... yet somehow, when a Pitbull bites someone, it's a huge deal. It just doesn't make any sense.
Those people who support BSL must have never owned a pet, for they must not realize that to responsible Pitbull owners, those dogs are considered family. What heartless person would want to rip a family member out of another's arms? It's time that we stop blaming the Pitbulls. It's not their fault. It's the illegal breeders that have disgraced the name of these sweet, loyal dogs. Pitbulls are not monsters. They are our trusted companions that we have grown attatched to for their energetic nature, loyalty... and love. So let's stop calling the Pitbulls monsters, and take a look at the real two-legged monsters here... irresponsible owners.

I hope I have changed some minds here today. I know from experience that not all Pitbulls are aggressive. Pitbulls shouldn't be targetted. No specific dog breed should be targetted. We should start trying to fix the real reason that some dogs are aggressive: illegal dog breeders/ irresponsible owners.
