Well last week, Reggie said that the next nintendo console wont be only a new wii with HD, he said that the new one is gonna have a different gameplay, something like they are gonna make a new revolutionary console.
What do you think the new one will have?
I hope that the menu can be something like natal.
1. Motion controls
2. High definition
3. Online play
4. Downloadable content
Beyond the obvious, what do you think the game medium will be? Will it be a proprietary optical disk, or do you think they will move toward something solid state like the DS/DSi now that those are dirt-cheap? I personally think that, at a minimum, dual-layer DVD capacity would be required.
Also, will there be optional digital output for sound? Ever since the SuperNES days, games on Nintendo platforms have used Dolby Pro Logic surround sound, which encodes the sound to a stereo channel so that any number of speakers could reproduce the sound through complex mathematical algorithms. Pro Logic sound works well, so I believe they will stick with that t keep costs down.
As for graphics, hybrid raytracing and rasterization GPUs are slowly coming onto the market from ATI and NVidia. Rasterization is awful with approximating lighting (i.e. soft shadows, reflections, refactions), so raytracing comes into the play there. Yet raytracing by itself can be incredibly slow. The hybrid approach works because rasterization quickly draws the textured polygons, then raytracing applies the lighting. The best of both worlds! Will the next Nintendo console use that? I hope so!
