Hello, Class. Today I am going to teach you the art of political incorrectness.

The idea of politcal correctness stems from Karl Marx, the father of communism. By ridiculing dissenters against the government norm, those individuals can be ostracized from society. This keeps the majority in line with what the elites believe. Well, I loathe political correctness with a passion, so I am going to strike down some preconceived notions. Today's lesson deals with homophobia.

Homophobia is not...
...stating that you do not support the lifestyle for religious or personal moral reasons.
...disagreeing with gay marriage because of the belief that marriage is a religious institution.
...believing that the lifestyle is "disgusting" or "unnatural" without forcing your beliefs on the world.

Homophobia is...
...using denigrating terms toward an individual.
...bullying someone, regardless of that person's actual orientation, through any means, either public or private.
...ostracizing an individual because of how that person conducts his or her private life.
...assaulting someone because of a lifestyle.

An olive branch:
1. Why does government need to get involved in the personal lives of individuals? Obviously they do it to buy votes by dividing the populace. If I believe marriage is one thing, and you believe marriage is another thing, that is our own business. Base income taxes on how many people are living in a household, not how those people are related or not related.
2. Who you want to include in visits to the hospital or other places should be your business, be it your spouse, your pastor, your business associate, your significant other, your best buddy from third grade, or your crazy uncle Cletus with his peg leg and eye patch.
3. Much of the so called homophobia issue extends both ways with heterophobia, as well. Sometimes we have to just agree to disagree on certain issues and find common ground in other areas, since we all have different beliefs. By picking fights, in either direction, the anger just inflates.

Please share your thoughts on these and whether you agree or disagree with me. Either way, try to not fall into the uncivil politcal correctness trap, that generally ends in shouting matches with no lessons learned.

Let people live their life the way they want to. People need to stop sticking there noses into peoples business just because their sexuality.
You don't have to live that life style so it shouldn't bother you.
And if they want to be proud of who they are let them be. We should all be proud of who we truly.
Everyone is a gift no matter who you are.

This is why I try to stick to Buddhist traditions, I will not willingly hurt someone, so I don't have things thrown back at me. (^-^)/ I hope this makes sense, and no one sees the need to arguement.

Homosexuality is a hot topic nowadays.. It's however a touchy subject for me. I have a person in my family is gay. He is the most kind person you'll ever meet, he doesn't even come across as gay but he doesntell everyone how proud he is of it and what not - personally on the topic of pride in your sexuality I don't think it's right for gays to be yelling to the world how proud you are to be gay, I am straight and I don't walk around screaming I'm straight! I love men! I mean some people just set themselves up for being judged and whatnot. Sexuality to me is something that is just private. As far as homophobia goes - I personally believe (as a Christian) that being gay is wrong- however I won't go as far as some to say that it's "an abominatiOn to society" and what have you. I choose to love everyone and hate the sin and NOT the sinner.. I love that person in my family who is gay. But I hate that he chose that lifestyle. I believe that people just have a misconception about all Christians being homophobic- because not all of us are. Some denominations are more lenient towards gays and some are not (personally I am southern baptist. One of the denominations who strongly oppose it) I just am in between things as far as (christianity thing here) if homosexuals go to hell.. I just can't see an all loving god sendin someone straight to hell becaus they are gay.. I just can't. But anyways.. I kinda went all over the place. People have differing opinions so no one is really right/wrong here.. It's all a matter of opinion.

On Halloween, sometimes you'll get candy attached to a note or sometimes, just a note that says you'll burn in Hell if you don't fix all your sins or something like that...

I can say there are some gay people who bring it upon themselves... to an extent. It's 1 thing to be proud & refuse to lie. But somethingelse completely to shove it inpeople's face. Some choose the ladder, that cause much tension.

Because of the time between when I first responded and now, I'm not on the same line of thought, so I'm going to go about this a different way.


Take Christianity for example. Yes, I agree that it doesn't have much actually against homosexuality.
The problem though is that people don't take it the way you do.
You're not the average person, so you don't see your religious teachings in the same light most other people do. I think you have a better understanding of your religion than the average person does.
Because the average person, the common person, doesn't understand it as much they get misunderstandings and misconceptions.
Personally, I don't hold anything against Christianity.
I agree that it's the boneheaded members who cause the problems.
Unfortunately though, people in general are somewhat boneheaded.
Nomatter the religion, the majority of people will not actually understand the actual ideals and teachings without taking the time to learn about it more. Most people don't take that time to learn.
Because most people don't actually understand their religion, they twist and distort their religion.
In Christianity the belief that just being homosexual is a sin arises out of that. While it may not be the majority of christians who believe that, there's definitely a large enough number of the ones who do believe being homosexual is wrong to have a significant negative effect on the homosexual community.
A religion may not directly speak out against homosexuality, but if the effect it has on people is the same as if it did then at the very least there must be a flaw in how the religion is taught.
That's where I think most religious organizations are lacking.
I don't blame them, at least not ones who aren't outrightly enforcing misconceptions.
It can be difficult to properly teach even a single person about religion let alone large groups.
I just think there's a way something is and a way people see it. Most don't see things the way they are.

To build on that, I don't go handing letters to people, or small magazines or pamphlets. *cough*Jehova'sWitnesses*cough*

Of course, that's unfair, most Witnesses I have encountered are quite friendly, if a little persistent and annoying by coming to my door. Oh well.

That. The biggest problem lies in radicalism, I believe anyone can be as radical as they want, between themselves and without going around shouting who is going to hell who is not and spreading hate like Westboro does. Same goes for homosexuals who misunderstand the line between opinion and disrespect. Anyone has the right to think its wrong, unnatural, regardless of the reason (religion or something else), but it is homophobia when a shopkeeper for example refuses to sell you something because you are a man wearing earrings and a rainbow jacket, what would suggest you are gay. Thats discrimination founded in homosexualism.

Christianity in particular (not some of the boneheaded members but actual teachings of Jesus), expounds very open acceptance and that we are all flawed in our own ways. In Christianity, it is clearly spelt out that everyone will screw up time and time again but that sins and transgressions are forgiven. Being a homosexual and loving someone are not sins, but the sexual acts are considered sins - as are many heterosexual acts. Some examples of sins in the New Testament are sodomy, adultery, lust, fornication, idolatry, witchcraft, wrath, gluttony, excessive gambling, thievery, pride, murder, drunkenness, envy, filth, hypocrisy, unforgiving, and lying. (Try to make it through a single day without breaking one of those!) No sin is considered worse than the other, since they are all transgressions against righteousness.

If someone tells you that all homosexuals are going to Hell, kindly use some of what I have included to try educating them. I hope it helps with your understanding. Realize that one of the sins, hypocrisy, is rampant among Christians. Perhaps that is due to ignorance of Jesus' teachings among the Church. Still, that one is a tough battle because we are all hypocrites (no matter the viewpoints in life), in our own ways.

It's a complicated subject and I'm not even sure where to start.
Part of it is how you define homophobia. It may have a definition in the dictionary, but like with most other things, it means different things to different people.
Naturally, personal opinions lead to varied views on specific instances.
Regardless of what truely is homophobia, you have to be aware that not everyone thinks the same way you do.
A point where I might disagree with you is the religious disapproval of homosexuality. While it may not be homophobic on the part of the individual, I think the religion itself does cause homophobia, and I consider that to be a very negative thing.
To say a religion which disappoves of homosexuality doesn't enforce homophobic beliefs in any way just strikes me as false.
I believe many religions have had strong oppressive influences on the homosexual community.

The reason I say, "I believe", is that if I were to state it as a fact then I'd just get people trying to contest the statement, and I also think that stating it as a fact would be a bit too presumptuous.

On your wording throughout your list of what is homophobic, I think you were a little too vague. That prevents me from being able to put forth a solid enough arguement to even respond to it.

I am guessing you are uneasy talking about that particular subset of society because you do not belong to it. You injected yourself into the discussion, them claim to not want to get involved. Dont back out now; share your beliefs. It's a great way to be politically incorrect and break through the walls of stereotypes to learn more about each other.

I personally don't think it would be bad to avoid someone or not associate with him if you think what he does is wrong. But ostracization may be a more extreme level.

It's funny how people, more so on the far left side, seem to think that if you don't support gay rights then you are being judgemental/harsh/crewl. Then there's the overuse and exaggeration of homophobia that you discussed here. Ahh, it's probably wise just to stay clear of the whole conflict.
You guys should listen to Mark Levin, he comes on the radio every night on the EIB network. He's very knowledgeable in political correctness.

Agreed, it is a private matter and should not be left as such. People should not be ostracized for who they are attracted to.

Also, I still laugh at how some people were creeped out by the "invasive" questions regarding orientation and other matters in the recent Census. Just thought I'd toss that out there.
