Time for the annual review of progress across this community! All references to the 2012 plans come from this blog, written at the beginning of the year.

Painting
The original agenda for the painting features were primarily focused on adding to 3DSPaint, to bring it to the level of features on DSiPaint.

In reality, a busy schedule prevented much from being added. Instead, 3DSPaint and DSiPaint both gained simple slideshows with random transition effects. Also, an early version of GamePadPaint for the Wii U was silently launched, just to give a taste of what is to come.

Saviis
The next generation of Saviis were going to come to 3DSPaint.com. They would be 3D and twice the resolution of the first generation.

Many of the components have been drawn, but they are not incorporated into any final product.

The Mystical Journey
After 2011 proved to be a dead year for the game's development, there were ambitious plans to regroup with a new team and push forward with development.

Very little happened for the first half of 2012 concerning the development of TMJ, aside from Old Man Skunk mysteriously giving us all his trash on a daily basis.

Development exploded in mid year, starting with the cel-based cinema sequence on the backstory of Hoedr. That was followed almost every month with something new: tile/sprite-based cinema sequence, character profiles, beastiary, 1-player battle demo, and the NPC-interaction demo.

The old sprites were completely scrapped, with original replacements that are based on members of the community. (These sprites are even being worked into the old demos.) The team has gained many talented artists and writers, who are all helping to push both the DSi and 3DS browsers to their limits.

Game Shows
The rewrite to the Game Show section was a low-priority plan, so nothing changed here.

HullBreach Online
The original code for this game is about 6 years old, which is ancient on the Web. I had planned a rewrite for the 3DS browser and cleanup for the Wii and DSi.

There was some clean-up to the code to get aspects of the game working that had died over time. A full rewrite is still needed, though.

Enhanced Profiles
This idea had such positive feedback that it was shifted to the top priority and was launched already in January 2012!

Other Plans
* Speed up the servers
There is always maintenance being performed on the servers. The most recent change was the move of all my websites that are not part of this community onto their own server to save on bandwidth for more simultaneous connections. The chatrooms run on their own database server so that they don't lag the rest of the community. There were also tweaks done to the main database server, and many are continued to be done with the code.
* Host another Game for a Game competition in June-August
I had the competition, but nobody entered it. That was kind of a head-scratcher after around 10 entries the previous year. Going forward, any game or app submissions get a $20.00 eShop/Points card.
* Enhance the Groups
After the success of expanded profiles, groups gained many new features of similar shape. One of the most popular is the ability to delegate page ownership to other group members. Also, the frequent request of multiple invitations was filled.
* Enhance the Message System
Messages now support multiple recipients, and old messages can be deleted in blocks by date.
* Fix various bugs
There will always be unforeseen bugs in any complex software, so this is an on-going project.

Things not Forgotten
* The library
This one was forgotten in 2012, unfortunately
* Timezone issues
More areas of the community now display the proper timezones.
* tWiiter
I've been too busy to work on this website, so I had decided to sell it. The reaction was unexpected, and tWiiter has returned to its previous state.
* 3D Mesh Gallery
This saw no changes in 2012, but GamePadPaint.com is only in its infancy.

Unforeseen Changes
GamePadPaint.com saw a partial launch, soon after the Wii U saw its North American release. Some aspects of the website are functioning, but others need to be built out yet. Rather than just duplicating the layout of the other websites, GPP has a pseudo-frames layout that will allow swapping between left- and right-handed modes.
Blogs gained the "bumping" feature, which allows admins to re-feature old blogs into the spotlight for a second viewing. Additionally, blog ratings display on the feature page, and authors to blogs can jump right to editing from viewing.
Bulletin Boards saw most of their posts in the gaming-related forums, so those have been split into numerous new forums.
Chatrooms gained aliasing and advanced profile pop-ups, and some pop-culture commands, among other tweaks.
Administration became too overwhelming for me, so new overlords rose to power through peaceful means. To help with their tasks, several areas of the community were fleshed out with new administrative features, such as chatroom event scheduling and profile notes.
Friend Lists saw a major improvement that cleaned up much of the confusion, caused from the old bi-directional request/acceptance.
