Last year, there was so much demand for expanded profiles after I posted the blog of 2012 goals that they were moved to the top priority. This year, it looks like the most popular item in the goals blog was the mobile app. Thus, I would like to bump up the priority of it and begin plans immediately.m I just need ideas.

The Name
I struggled a little while over what to call it. Although I will add painting to it, I can't just call the app iPaint (or DroidPaint) because there are so many apps with that name already. Plus, that name no longer captures the community in its entirety.

The earliest members still refer to the community as "SDK" because the first focus was on the JavaScript Software Development Kit for the Wii and DSi browsers. When the community sprung from those tech demos (mainly the chatrooms and painting), the "SDK" meaning faded. Still, calling the app "The SDK Community" seems appropriate.

If someone can come up with a new and unique meaning for "SDK", we may be able to work that into the abbreviation. The first thing that came to mind for me was "Society of Drunken Kangaroos", but that probably only covers a small fraction of us.

The Price
I know we all like free apps and are annoyed by apps that litter themselves with a combination of banner ads and pop-up ads that correspond to any action you take (which explains Zynga's fall from $13.00 stock to $2.50 stock in 3 months). We also despise companies that claim you can purchase the full app to remove any ads, yet it only cuts the ads in half.

With all that said, it does cost $100 per year for an Apple Developer account and a good chunk of cash to get a Mac. Since both are required for iOS development, I have to invest a large up-front price to even get the app moving.

I've thought about 2 versions: a free one with a single banner ad on the footer and a $.99US (or equivalent) for one with absolutely no ads. Would anyone be willing to pay the $.99, or does everyone want to get the free one only? We've already toyed with the idea of micro transactions with the Saviis, and that didn't work out so well, so I would like to steer clear of those.

I would like to pack everything into the app as possible, but I will roll it out in phases with more features added each time. What would everyone like to see prioritized? Just list some Top 10 features in comments, and I will determine what to put into it first. We will probably start with 5 features and keep adding 5 every version.

The nice thing about apps is that they can remember your login information. Yet, if someone gets ahold of your mobile device, all your account information is readily available. I've decided to add 4-digit PINs to account settings for quick mobile logins.
