Development of the app has been underway for about a week, and I thought I would share some screenshots.
Before I do, I have another poll-type question: Should I pack all the features I can into the app with a later (a month or two) release date or just include a few key features and release it in early March?
This is the main menu. It still has temporary icons and no background fill.
The inbox and outbox will both have a similar appearance to this, with tweaks to the icons and background. Both screens do load actual message summaries at this point, but I am still determining how many to load by default for optimum speed.
This is a very early chatroom menu with no graphics. I've been playing around with color coding the classes of chatrooms, but that could be dropped in the final version.
How close are we getting, Hull? I have no problems being one of the firsts to test it out. I've got an iPhone and iPod I can put it on. The offer is out there if you so choose to use it!

I plan on having the first version done this month.
I think Shigeru Miyamoto once said "A delayed game is eventually a good game, but a rushed game is bad forever"

If what Shigeru said is true, then Half Life 3 better be perfect.

It's a good quote for game production, where the final product cannot easily be updated without changing the whole dynamic. I would tend to say that it does not carry over to online communities that are always evolving, though.
I am planning on releasing the app in stages so that it doesn't take a year for the first version to become available. Adding a few features each month seems like the way to go in this case.
Why not pack as much features as possible and get as much right on the first time around? then if any bugs occur you can prioritise them instead of spending more and more time on developing the app and maintaining the current ones. ... Besides its only inevitable that people will say bring it ASAP but when it's out they will complain about what's not there.
This makes me want to get an iPod touch. More than before.
I say release the basics, and add features over time. That's what the iOS update feature's for, right?
I would say get the app out there. Apps can always be improved. Key features with an early release would be my opinion. The app can always be inproved at a later date. Besides, this way, you can scope out any problems you may run into ahead of time.
