Now, I know what we're all thinking. "He's probably had a bad experience with SkunkBot, and is now mad". Well, yes. However, I'm not calling Skunkbot bad, individually. I'm saying all software similar is just horrible.
First off, Computers don't think like we do. In case you may have not known, computers (In this case, moderator programs) are engineered to primarily target swear words. It works by targeting keywords, resembling bad words entered. This seems like a good thing, since it can detect when a user seperates two sections of a swear word (Example: Res taur ant). However, the program doesn't know when the word is a swear, or not. For example, the Japanese word d-e-s-h-i-t-e (Lines put to block out sensors, for informational purposes). Now, this word is not a swear word, but the bot doesn't know that. After being sent in chat, tne bot will change it to "de****e".
Now, we understand about the faults of it, but why does it "suck"? Since the program may find the swear word, it may lead to miscommunication. It can star out large portions of words, making them unable to interpret to any reader. This issue commonly exists in the game "Maplestory", where many words are censored out, even being regular words. Also, this can result in frustration, and attempts to bypass the server. In some services, such as this one, Bypasses are an offense, and may result in a ban. They are attempted, due to users trying to communicate, but being halted by unnecessary censorship.
Also, some machines aren't that advanced. For example, I was chatting here, when a situation appeared with the Skunkbot. A user had been blocked for swearing. Sounds normal, right? She said ''Lмао". Still Normal, right? Well, the fault appears when she had said "Laugh My Ass Off" in plain text. Skunkbot decided this was ok, and just let it through. See, here's where unfair bannings can occur. Personally, I'm not very fond of services with moderators, but I still do respect them (No matter how well I show respect). However, when users are banned by these moderators, there's always a valid reason for it. Users can always be given a valid reason for bannings. Bots, on the other hand, cannot think on their own. This means they can not give out their own reasons.
For a more simplified list:
1)Makes Mistakes
2)Censors Non-swear words
3)Cannot give out valid reasons
4)Unfair Bans
5)Cannot Figure Out Situations
(Kind of Repetitive)
