This year, I am not holding a Game for a Game Competition. The eShop card is just the on-going prize for any games accepted for the Games pages in the community. Since every game will receive the prize, the standards are higher than they would be in the competition, where only a select few games would have won the prize. Here are some of the rules/guidelines of this on-going process:
1. Blog-based games are eligible to be added, but only true games can earn an eShop card.
2. The games must be written for a supported platform on the browser for the Wii, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, or Wii U. Generally, they would be made with client-side JavaScript, but server-side games that use PHP are also supported. For the Wii, Flash-based games are also accepted. For the Wii U, HTML5 video and audio can be embedded.
3. Any games can have an optional MySQL database backend for leader boards, save states, etc.
4. The games must be hosted on the SDK Community servers.
5. The games must have a method of returning to the Games menu that does not require the browser's Back button/navigation.
6. For any games made by a team, a leader must be designated to receive the eShop card. It is that leader's responsibility to determine how earnings are handled from that point.
7. It does not matter if the game has already been posted on another website, as long as the original author is submitting it.
8. If several games are submitted this year, I will announce a grand prize for what I consider the best game at the end of the year. Otherwise, I will hold it over until next year. This grand prize will make it very much worth the time spent on game development, but I will not say what it is at this time.
9. Contact TacoRocco about any submissions. A profile link is on each Game page.
Update
There has been some interest in blog-based games. I've decided that such games, if accepted, will receive 30 Savii Bucks. They must contain original artwork from one of the Paint apps and have branching hyperlinks for multiple outcomes. If you are interested in seeing how such a game should be structured, try either of them made by TacoRocco.
