Note: This review is not intended to insult Windows users, despite the few remarks appearing otherwise. This is a review based on a comparison of experience on both operating systems, so I would like any comments to be the same. I will ignore, and possibly delete, one-sided comments.
So here is my review of Windows 8.1
I have gotten the hang of it. It literally takes a college course to learn how to use it, but I am getting there.
However, scrolling is unstable compared to Mac. I have to hold my fingers very steady, and cannot "flick" scroll pages. While streaming is faster, such as watching Netflix, the graphics are inferior compared to Mac. Even DVD's are blocky and a pain to watch when the movie is darker.
The thinner font and brighter colors were not the only thing hurting my head. Windows has always been known to use non-complimented colors in their UI, simply picking random colors for the menus and interface, and to worsen the pain, the use of bright backgrounds lacking a balance of color. OS X uses colors that compliment one another, and gradients (even in Yosemite there is still a slight gradient effect) that help relax the mind, and prevents overstimulation. I have just completed some of my online assignments for college on Windows 8 earlier today, and found it harder to concentrate.
The thinner font makes it harder to read, and combining the flashy colors, is a huge headache.
But what made things worse was the fact that the screen was very dim. I soon learned that it was the auto brightness, which does a horrible job compensating for the ambient light, and it is painfully noticeable compared to Mac. I had to disable the auto brightness so I could actually see the screen because it would dim every time I walk in front of my laptop.
There are a few pros, nevertheless.
The Start screen is handy for opening apps, just like Mac's "Launchpad" (which has been around a lot longer, Windows is good at stealing ideas), but the live icons make things a little more fluent. Skype is faster at loading (I guess that means inferior software works better on inferior operating systems).
The bottom line: I will continue using the Windows 8 partition on my MacBook Pro (I'd like to see your Dell run Mac) for college and studies, and for playing Skyrim and Fallout. But for other games, as well as movie watching, music playing, web design, and recording singles for my band, the Mac OS X will still always be superior.
There's a lot of Mac love in here. Why not get a half decent PC that can run Windows 7/8.1/412.9 and Mac OSX (if you really must) but save $2000 and have a superior product?
If my ubuntu installation lagged less when I try to game, I would abandon windows entirely unless 9 is better.

Get a Mac and set up partitions for Windows 8.1 and Ubuntu 12.

You can only install one partition with Bootcamp. For some reason, more than likely security reasons, Bootcamp WILL NOT install or even make a partition if there are more than one partitions. Even if you make a partition, and this I've learned the hard way, if you make a partition after using Bootcamp, you will lose everything in the Bootcamp partition.
I don't know what made Microsoft ditch that modern, beautiful, and enjoyable design and overhaul it to a piece of sick monkey's diarrhea.
Mac OS X Yosemite's new overhaul is modern and beautiful, moving away from the hideous skeuomorphistic design that began to get old.
However, Windows is and will always be superior in usability, due to the fact that it is a more open OS with better applications (such as games), and the fact that it works very well for almost every use. Mac OS X is only superior for recreational use, in which powerful and robust applications (such as animation programs like Maya) run better on it.
That is just my take on both OS. They both have their pros and cons. Although I am an Apple "fanboy", I'd still use Windows anyday for what I need a PC for.

I agree, Windows 7 was far better than 8, but I had no choice. Where I live, Windows 7 is no longer sold in retail (in this case, Best Buy). I didn't have time to purchase from online, I needed Windows for college.
I do agree, also, that the design overhaul in Yosemite is beautiful, but I never really hated the skeuomorphistic design. I quite liked it especially for iPad. But I have quickly learned to love the flat design, it is way easier to use.
However, the only thing Windows will ever be superior in will be games and enterprise. Which fits in, because those are Mac OS's fatal flaws.

Maybe Microsoft should hire Scott Forstall to bring his skeuomorphistic "magic" onto Windows 9. Personally, I'd prefer that over Windows 8's current design anyday.
This review iis great and all but not even Windows users like Windows 8.1.

I'm sticking with Windows 7 on my laptop until the day it dies. Once that happens, I don't know what I will use. I may hold my nose and use Windows 8 (or whatever is out then) or completely drop Windows for Ubuntu or Mac OS. Right now, everything I do except for Wii U development works on my Mac Mini.

Didn't the Mac Mini get discontinued?
I only saw one once. That was back in 2009. I rarely see those around. It's like a relic I believe.

They still release 3 models on a roughly yearly basis. Mine is the late 2012 low-end model. It originally had an Intel i3 processor and 4GB of RAM, but I have upgraded it to 16GB.

The only reason why I still use Windows is because of gaming. There are only a few games that natively run on Mac OS and Linux.
