So when I bought my 3ds about 18 months ago I really bought it for one purpose. Well.
For two purposes, one was Pokemon Y and the other was for the
uh
Y'know
What this blog is about.
ANYWHO.
For those of you who know not what the magical application that is Flipnote Studio, it is an animation application. (Alliteration hehe)
You animate short flipbooks, put music and sound effects over said flipbooks, then generally upload to some green page where there's stars. And petitions.
I am going to go over the primary differences between Flipnote Studio 3D and its less dimensional DSi counterpart.
Firstly, the most prominent difference is the addition of 2 more colors, green and yellow. And holy gargantuan goombas, you can have up to SIX colors on any given frame. Now this is a major improvement over FSi, as you were only able to have two colors on a frame at any time.
Another new feature is the ability to animate in 3D. In 2D. Erm-
To expound, the layer system akin to FSi and other applications such as Photoshop is used as a sort of pseudo 3D. Each layer has a depth you assign it to, and it makes it look whooshy whooshy 3D woohoo. You can ignore this feature all together, but it is still neat to mess around with. Another note(COMEDY), is that in this new edition of FS, there are three layers to work on. Now you can have environments on one layer, characters on another, and effects on the remaining, or what have you.
You can now zoom into any frame and see a grid. This feature means that transposing sprites into FS wont take several years like it did before. Also with the additional colors you can do the NES GRAPHICS
BECAUSE BEFORE IT WAS ONLY ABLE TO RENDER
uh
Game boy sprites
hardware limitations
joke
Moving on!
Selecting certain things and copying and pasting said things now is much less of a pain in your buttocks as now there is a convenient button right on the frame so you don't have to pull up the menu just to copy and paste.
You can rotate and freely shrink/grow selections now, rather than there just being a button that resizes 0.5 no matter what.
Sound effects can be assigned to a frame so your tats and your tuts will never be out of place! (get ur mind outta the gutter, it's onomatopoeia)
More paint brushes! A bucket fill tool! Return of the pointless picture integration thing! EXPORT YOUR FRICKING ANIMATION AS AN AVI RIGHT TO YOUR SD CARD AUDIO AND ALL!
sorry that last one just has me really excited.
But yeah besides those things it's pretty much the same as FSi. There are a lot of fixes and improvements that just expedite the animation workflow. It is wonderful and I hope to see you all on the (hopefully) soon to be released Flipnote World. Maybe we can rebuild the Hatena community to what it was at one point.
In case you are wondering how to get this early access to FS3D, you need a Club Nintendo. And if you don't already have one I don't know what to tell you ya dingus. Get one. If not for FS3D for the Mewtwo DLC for Smash.
Unless Nintendo adds some kind of online functionality and appropriate sharing features, I have absolutely no use for it.
It's definetly more elaborate than Flipnote Studio for the Nintendo DSi, so I can imagine what amazing Flipnotes people can make. Much improved ones, I assume.
OH BUT WAIT
YOU CAN'T CHECK THEM OUT
BECAUSE NO ONLINE.
And local interaction is absolutely idiotic in my opinion. Why would you go through the hassle of sending Flipnotes wirelessly to a friend when you can just show them on your 3DS?
Ugh.
Nintendo is still stuck in the past. It's such a shame. Hopefully Nintendo has some plans for online interaction in the future. One can hope, but I strongly doubt it.
Well, sending Flipnotes locally means your friend can edit and completely screw up the animation's original intentions, so that's fun.
Online would be nice, and really, Miiverse could be used for sharing. It's already there so Flipnote wouldn't need a completely new community. Might not work perfectly with the current layout, but I don't think it would be horrible.

I am hoping that the cancellation of Swapnote doesn't correlate to the possible cancellation of Flipnote Studio World. I am ready to reenter the world of feeling vastly inferior in my animation skills.
