I'm going to be discussing some of the rather irritating people who are quite upset about Nintendo's decision to not have voice chat in their new IP's debut game, Splatoon.
And I'm totally fine with that decision. I think it works best for the audience to leave it out.
HOWEVER
There are also folks who are going so far as to claim that not having voice chat has made them decide to not purchase the game.
I mean what.
Who does that? You're not going to buy the game because of one minor item that was left out? And you don't even know if it's a necessary feature because you've never played it.
Not all of the complaining parties are threatening to not buy the game, but the amount of complaints that are on social media about this in general is absurd.
Nintendo obviously decided against including voice chat because of the toxic voice chat environment. Maybe if people could restrain their language or actually be nice it could be considered. But to literally spam complaints about it being absent gets really irritating.
Let me point out that I don't mind if you think it would be cool, but don't spam Nintendo trying to get their attention.
Sure, it might be nice to have voice chat if you're playing with registered friends, but it's definitely a good idea to keep it out of public matches.
And for those arguments about including a mute option, first off, that clearly creates huge issues with strategic matches. What if one team doesn't like the insults that the other team throws at them, so they all mute voice chat? Then the other team gets an advantage by being able to give out instructions. In a team-based game, I don't see it working.
Or if they only allow teammates to talk to each other, the same concept applies. If someone is cursing and a teammate turns off the voice chat, you lose one member of the team from playing strategically.
So let's not jump to conclusions about this ruining the game and don't get so upset over something like this.
To be honest, if Nintendo actually integrated that Wii U Video Chat thing (read: *cough*Skype knockoff*cough*) with their games then everybody would a) stop complaining and b) be jawdropped.
