. At this point we can probably post anything we want so why don't I post something that I should be posting on a WoW website?
Most of you don't play WoW so what is a Mage? Mage is one of the 12 playable classes in WoW and are spell casters that use either fire, frost, or arcane
(no, not the white stuff you can buy in a dark ally)
magic to deal damage. Mages can specialize into one of these three magics to focus more on that magic. Frost focuses on freezing enemies and slowing them down. I should also say that Mages are pretty squishy. They die fast from melee classes like warrior, rogue, or feral druids if you let them get too close to you.
A poor unsuspecting mage being ambushed by a feral druid.
Anyways, let's begin.
How to play Frost Mage First you specialize into Frost Mage. You can do this when you're a Level 10 Mage. As you level up, you learn spells and talents to add to your arsenal of icy magic. At max level is when you're at full power. You can summon melted snowmans, freeze targets faster, call down icy comets from the sky, or even conjure a castle made out of ice.
Okay. Maybe you can't make ice castles in WoW but you can do other things.
Talents
At Level 15 you have either Evanesce, Blazing Speed, or Ice Floes.
Choose Blazing Speed for more mobility. Unless you want to be like that mage up there with the feral druid.
At Level 90 you have either Mirror Image, Rune of Power, or Incanter's Flow.
Choose Incanter's Flow. The other talents aren't so useful since it will make you stand still too much. Again, that will make feral druids go after you.
Glyph of Regenerative Ice lets you heal yourself while you wait for 100 years to go by.
Glyph of Deep Freeze lets you use Comet Storm and Deep Freeze at the same time. You can use Macros to do this.
Glyph of Water Elemental lets your melted snowman cast spells while moving and increase its health.
Stats In WoW, there are 3 primary offensive stats. Intellect, Agility, and Strength. As a Mage, you want Intellect. Intellect increases your Spell Power. The other two stats are useless to mages. As of Warlords of Draenor, there are 6 secondary stats: Mastery, Haste, Critical Strike, Multistrike, Spirit, and Bonus Armor (the last two are completely useless to mages). As a frost mage you want multistrike. Multistrike gives you a chance to hit your target with the same spell more two times at 30% damage. It's like Mega Kangaskhan's Parental Bond but weaker.
Rotation Now for the good stuff. How do you use this thing? As a frost mage, your objective is to get the Fingers of Frost effect. Fingers of Frost will make you think your target is frozen, allowing to use spells that only work when the target is frozen in place (like Deep Freeze only works on frozen targets). I should also add that Shatter increases your critical strike chance against frozen targets. As most games, crits increases your damage. Anyway, how should you cast your spells?
When you don't have Fingers of Frost You can get Fingers of Frost by either
• Casting Frostbolt (Has a 15% chance per cast)
• Casting Frostbolt while your melted snowman is using Waterbolt on your target. (Will always give Fingers of Frost)
• Casting Frozen Orb and letting it hit at least one target. (It can be tricky to aim Frozen Orb as it can hit a wall)
On side note, you can use Ice Nova or Frost Nova if you need to freeze the target immediately but having a difficult time getting Fingers of Frost. However, it's very tricky to do this since Ice/Frost Nova breaks from damage.
When you have Fingers of Frost 1. Use Deep Freeze. It will not only freeze the target but also stun it for a few seconds. Unlike Frost Nova or Ice Nova, Deep Freeze doesn't break from damage.
2. Follow up with Comet Storm. Again, Shatter will make it crit a lot.
3. Use Frostfire Bolt when you have the Brain Freeze effect.
4. Finally, use Ice Lance. Ice Lance does a ton of damage against frozen targets. However, Ice Lance will break Deep Freeze's effect so this is why you should use it last.
Well. That's how you play Frost Mage. I'll admit I recently learned how to play frost mage and had trouble playing it about a week ago. But now I enjoy freezing targets in place, stunning them in a cryogenic prison for a few seconds, and singing a children's song as I destroy my opponents with ice.
Is this for PvP or PvE, because your talents are kinda...weird for both.
Evanesce is the main talent for both PvP and PvE because it replaces Ice Block, which for both PvE and PvP is a godsend on the healers, and the 1.5 second speed buff does not outrun projectiles, even with a Blink afterwards.
Alter Time is the chosen talent here due to a full heal if you time it right, Ice Barrier is great if you are questing, or leveling, but in a PvP match or a boss fight, returning to where you are at full health is better, than shielding you for a few seconds, then dying when it wears off.
Ring of Frost is fine, as is Cold Snap.
You want Frost Bomb in both situations because, Frost Bomb debuffs your target for 12 seconds. The debuff causes your Ice Lances that benefit from Shatter Icon Shatter (because the target is frozen or you have a charge of Fingers of Frost) to deal additional damage to the target and some damage to all enemies within 10 yards.
The rest of the build is fine. Just those few things are wonky.
Other than that, this blog and guide is pretty good, for a nub.

It's mostly pvp. Not sure about pve thought but it could work.
Evanesce is weak. 3 second immunity from damage isn't very good compared to Ice Block. It's only useful if you want to avoid 1 spell against you then what do you do after those 3 seconds? Not only that, Regenerative Ice doesn't work with Evanesce so you lose out on heals. Blazing Speed is better because it can get you away from melee, mobs, or fires when Blink is on cooldown. I'm not sure if there are raids where you need high mobility but Blazing Speed is the better choice.
I have dispelled Alter Time many times before as a Shadow Priest. Basically 1 dispel can make Alter Time completely useless. It's situational yes but what if you need to run away from the enemy and you end up going back where you casted Alter Time? True, Alter Time does require perfect timing to use it but I find Ice Barrier more useful since I can absorb DoTs and it doesn't pull me back where I cast Alter Time.
Let me tell you a story. A marksman hunter in full tier 18 gear plus legendary ring kept slaughtering my teammates in Ashran. Can you imagine an instant Aimed Shot, 25% damage increase from the ring, 1000 additional agility from potion, and 30% from Lone Wolf? 100Ks hitting us right in the face. At one point, this hunter tried to ambush me by doing that. I Ice Blocked and waited for his burst to be over. I use a Frozen Orb to get a Fingers of Frost then Deep Freeze + Comet Storm him. He Deterrence but came back with half his health to try to finish me off. I hid behind a rock to line out of sight him then got an opening to use Ice Nova then another Deep Freeze + Comet Storm to finish him off. Now while you're trying to get Fingers of Frost and putting a Frost Bomb on him, he would have finished you off before you get a chance to get a Fingers of Frost.
