Unless you live under a rock, you've probably heard of Nintendo Switch, Nintendo's solution to the failed Wii U console and the successor to the Nintendo 3DS. And it looks very promising.
The Nintendo Switch is a console hybrid, meaning it is not only a home console, but also a portable. As you can see, the "controllers" from the console detach, allowing players to game on a television via HDMI using the "Left and Right" control sticks attached to a controller or with a separate pro controller connected to it. You can also play on the go with the companion screen it has, and with friends on the go (since the "Left and Right" control sticks are each controllers, so you'll always have two in hand).

Nothing important has been leaked regarding the specs it has, but I'm fairly certain that they are acceptable for a console and really good for a portable. We do know that Nvidia is working on it, and that it will use the same architecture as their latest GTX graphics cards, which is phenomenal.
Regarding games, the introduction video confirms that the new Zelda game, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, is coming to the Switch, along with an all new Mario game, Splat2n, Skyrim, and a seemingly familiar Mario Kart (and possibly others I missed.)
DOUBLE ITEMS ARE BACK BABY!
One could argue that the lack of good specs caused the Wii U to fail, due to its hardware limitations with newer games third parties sought to make. So Nintendo cannot mess up here. But I'm pretty sure they've learned their lesson.
The idea is simply phenomenal, and it will most likely succeed because of this. It has huge potential. All Nintendo needs is a strong launch lineup, which can propel the Switch to succeed.
Which seems to be the case. Lots of important third parties are already jumping aboard.
I mean, who doesn't want portable Fallout 4 and Skyrim?
no shut up yes you do
So anyway, Nintendo has the right idea and the reception has been phenomenal so far, with the introduction video now over 10M views and over 400K likes and widespread coverage all over the media, even on non-gaming websites.
Definitely getting it day one.
all i need is friends to play it with :c
YOUR THOUGHTS
What do you think of the Nintendo Switch? Reply in the comments!
seriously
reply or something because this site is dead and we need it
This better not replace the 3DS. I'm fine with it replacing the Wii U, though. I haven't touched my Wii U in 3 months (I literally have not touched it), and when I do use it, it's for Super Mario Maker.
I dont want it. It makes the Wii U and 3DS's obsilite. Plus it'll suck battery like crazy. Plus I just want it as a home console not both. They should have waited till 2019 or 2020. It might make "'amiibos'" obsilite as well. Honestly my favorite Nintendo sysyem is the Wii U and the New Nintendo 3DS's. Plus, this will just be a stupid fad like Pokemon GO. Everybody will buy it and plau with it for a bit and lose intrest and it will die.
I doubt it'll end up replacing the portable Nintendo systems, but it will most likely replace the Wii U, unfortunately.

Well, to answer your concerns, The Wii U is dead, the 3DS not so much. The Wii U came out 4 years ago, and Color Splash will be it's last exclusive. The Wii U could never survive until 2019-2020 with the Wii U. As for the 3DS, the Switch is a home console first and foremost, and based off what I'm hearing about battery life, you'll want to play this at home most of the time anyway. The hyrbid aspect isn't really a gimmick, it's just a thing you can do if you want. Nobody is forcing you to undock it. As for amiibo, they were confirmed to work with it. Voice any other concerns if you have them.
This seems like a pretty neat concept for a console, but I'd be pretty spooked carrying it around outside unless you could get cases because i'd drop that so many times.
