Pop island is a cartoonish 3D capture the flag style game for all ages. It has two game modes, "Joyful" mode (Battle the other team for flags that are scattered across the map) and "Playful" mode. (Steal the other team's flag) There are 8 unlockable maps based off of planets in our solar system. There are also several playable characters with their own special abilities.
Unlocking New Content
To unlock characters and maps, you play the game, and at the end of each match, you recieve an amount of solar points based off of how well you did. After you reach a certain amount of points, new content is automatically unlocked. After all of the content is unlocked, the "Playful" game mode becomes available.
Gameplay
In the game, you capture flags and take them to your flag redemption point. The team with the most captures wins. You attack enemies with firecrackers which launch them away. They drop their flag in the process.
Graphics and Audio
Overall, the graphics were nice. The game was vibrant and colorful and the game runs smoothly. The game makes full use of the nintendo DSi's sound capabilities and plays an upbeat soundtrack throughout the game.
Multiplayer
Pop Island supports up to 8 players on seperate nintendo handhelds. The other players do not need the game and can recieve a demo through ds download. The Nintendo DS(and DSi) can play this game on ds download.
Overall
In conclusion, this game is excellent. It's fast paced, addictive, and fun. I recommend it to everyone.
It is priced at 500 DSi Points.
Don't forget to check out the sequel, Pop Island: Paperfield
I have had the game for a while and only have 2 complaints.
1) The controls hurt my hands for some reason.
2) The quotes that tell what special ability each character has creep me out a little. "(Land character) is happy to be alive." "(Water character) celebrates the beauty of the sea." "(Flying character) observes hapily our little world."
Not a huge complaint, but they just try to hard to set a happy mood, I guess.
Otherwise, the game is really fun, try it out.
I just got Pop Island: Paperfield and I want to say that this game is extremely worth it, especially at 200 points! I'll probably get the original game, too for more characters.
