In the city of Athens there was thread spinner the best of the best her name was Arachne. People were so amazed at how fine and how colorful her silk clothes were. Some even tried to compete with Arachne but lost by a land slide. Some thought that she was taught by Athena herself. But she said it was passed down through her family. One day after she sold a silk cloth to a couple of old ladies she herd them say.
"I don`t think she was taught through her parents I believe she was taught by the god Athena herself!"
Arachne yelled at her,
"Foolish old lady! I was taught by my father and I am even better than the goddess Athena herself!!"
A wise women herd her shouting came and said,
"It would be very unwise of you Arachne to say that about the godess Athena I suggest you appolgise to her right away!"
Arachne bellowed to her,
"I would never! I am greater than than the goddess herself and she wouldn't know she never even ansewers our prayers! I would compete with her to prove I am better!"
Suddenly a bright white light shown appon the old wise woman and her ragity clothes turned into beautiful gold and white clothes of silk. Everyone around soon relized they were in the presence of the goddess herself...Athena.
"I accepte your challenge Arachne." Athena said greatly.
They soon gathered the townspeople of Athens in the middle where the two would compete.
"Go!!"
They were neck and neck at the start but near the end when they had to weave together there creation Arachne fell behind. When Athena finished she worked on her creation it showed her defeating Posiden in the battle for Athens. Arachne made her creation it showed how gods and goddess turned into regular every day people and how she thought it was evil.
Athena saw this and destroyed it she cried,
"You should never insult the gods!"
Arachne made a noose and yelped,
"I will not live with this humiliation!" Athena turned her into a spider.
