Finally, a SS German Officer told us ; You may rest, so we arrived at a Silent town. No one lived here. They were all dead. After tripping on almost 20 corpses, we made it to a building we were told to sleep in.
I ate my ration and went to sleep. Lived a long night.
After morning grew ; we started again, the Same way we left Auschwitz. We made it ; We made it to Birkenau.
Life was normal. Too normal.
Chapter 9
--Mourning--
That morning, we were ordered to take a shower. We were still all exhausted. My father and me held hands, to prevent being separated. But he was so exhausted, he just collapsed in the snow. I tried to get him up ; but he refused... Moments later ; Sirens go off.
When the sirens went off ; I ran to my father to see if he was still okay. I abandoned him. When the sirens rang, I ran back to my block, leaving him in the snow. I thought "I'd have a dead block off me so I can work on me surviving." I am deeply disappointed.
That night ; Was another surprise. He was barely able to speak, and he was able to say "Wa-ater. G-get m-ee-e wa-ter." But another SS Guard passing by said "Shut up!" . But on he go "W-w-water." The SS Guard took his crowbar, and slammed my father in the face. His skull... Cracked. He murmured "Crosomo..." ... ... ... My name! The curfew bell rang, I couldn't do anything. I went to bed. When I woke up, no one lay in his bunk. He must had been taken to the Crematory for extermination. It was over. My father died.
The last word I heard? "My" name. "My old name". Before I became a number.
