Ok, before I start, I'll tell you the background of this game.
Last year, around February, a game came out in Japan. It was no ordinary game - it was a game with which you could completely make your own games. It was RPG Maker DS - another game in the amazing RPG Maker series. There was talk of it being translated, but considering Enterbrain!'s (The makers of the series) history, it seemed unlikely. So many fanatics of the series had it imported instead of waiting (like me!).
Now for the review.
Gameplay - 8
The gameplay of the games you make depend on your skill level, but if made properly, the gameplay is smooth and easy to control. My only issue is that the background scrolling is jumpy.
Controls - 7
The gameplay controls are easy, but making the game can sometimes be hard. It is hard to put in fine details, so you'll often find yourself editing the sample maps just because it is easier. However, moving through menus, typing and thing's locations are easy to do and find.
Customisability - 10
The game is fully customisable, with some parts even allowing the use of the DSi Camera (faces of characters). Everywhere and everything can be made, edited and fine-tuned.
Graphics - 8
Although 2D, the graphics are nice and RPG style. The main tilesets are past style, which look really good. There is the fact that the characters never stop stepping even when they are standing still, though, which is really annoying. And the lack of other timed tilesets.
Final Score - 8.25
It is a good game, but there are things missing. The computer version is a lot better, but if you really want something portable, go for this.
Also, as a final note, if anyone knows Japanese, this game will be far more enjoyable for you.
