well, as you know, there are a few little knick-naks and doo-dads that enhance gaming with motion control. Such as the Wii, PS move, and Kinect. Unfortunatly, i own a Kinect and i'd be gratefull to steer you away from this monstrosity.
Kinect. I garentee you've all heard of this product, what with Microsoft's $1,000,00 or so advertising campaing. Microsoft has slapped Kinect everywhere, for instance: on the back of your pop-tarts and favorite cereal boxes, dozens of TV commercials, and Heck they even advertised during a Justin Bieber concert! Can you believe that? The "commercial" showed Justin going "backstage" and playing Kinect's top selling dancing game, Dance Central™. Oh, im sure all those girls want Kinect (>.> but heck, they'd buy anything he'd ask them to. Finally, just a bonus, even Oprah and Ellen showed it off and got those soccer moms going insane. I'd have to give credit to Microsoft on that one, t'was a smart move. Just the fact that this Gimmicky add on is advertising so much, instantly tells you it's bad, but now its time to review the product (sorry &uarr.
The Kinect is very easy to set up right out of the box if you have the newer xbox 360, just plug in and calibrate. Whereas, with the older 360 Models, you'll have to plug in a seperate power supply into the wall, which is a pain and a tangle of wires. Then, you have to install an update thats only for older 360s. Then, after you get all situated, the problems keep pilling on. One of the biggest problems with the Kinect is play space and lighting. On the back of Kinect's box it says: 6ft (1 player), 8ft (2 players). Oh, boy did they miscalculate, because you need a heck of alot bigger room. And, on top of that the room needs to be fairly wide, or you'll be clumsly hitting player 2. A less serious problem is lighting. If there's a bright light near Kinect, parts of your body will not be able to be read. But, dont worry, the issue can be solved with a little comon sense.
Sony's more of a "laughing stock" of motion controls. It's a rip-off of Nintendo Wii and they are incorporating it with everything.
The tech behind the Kinect is pretty amazing, and not to mention there are ways to use it on a computer (If you have the drivers).
Last I checked older Xbox's didn't need a separate power supply. It's USB powered. Besides, if you have an Xbox that is up to date on updates, the Kinect software is already installed.
Mine works ok, but there are many flaws, and it doesn't even work as it was advertised when it was in the Natal stage. The Kinect has much potential, but developers are being lazy and careless. Thus getting the crappy results we have now.
I disagree with this blog, kinect is actually a moderately good motion control, sure it might be a bit faulty, but mine works great, it's better than the PS3's motion controls anyway.
I tried playing the Kinect a few times. It somehow misread my head as an arm. I had to stand on the other side of the room for it to pick me up correctly.
