It's been a while since my last update. I've taken a break from the political blogs, I will resume those indefinitely, though. In this blog I'd like to talk about a new respect I have for Sony. I've been a Xbox fanboy for years, and always will be, but I do like Sony for some reasons I'm about to go into.
I have had a PSP for about two years. About two weeks ago, I picked mine up and just kinda stared at it. I decided to Google about the PSP and their versions. I found the Wikipedia page on it and noticed there was a section regarding homebrew...
That's what started my crazy PSP hacking week. Over the last two weeks, I've actually managed to Downgrade my PSP system version from 6.38 to 6.20. At 6.20 I managed to get Custom Firmware set up on it while avoiding Sony's "Bricking" trigger. After getting Custom Firmware (CFW) I got numerous Emulators and ISOs.
Right now I have a Nintendo 64, Gameboy Advance, Nintendo DS, SNES, and Sega Saturn Emulator. All emulators that can play games all on my PSP. All Completely portable! I have only gotten into the Nintendo 64 recently. Right now, I'm on my adventure through the original LoZ Ocarina of Time. I've beaten Super Mario 64, and I have Golden Eye 007, Pokemon Stadium, and LoZ MM all in waiting and ready to play.
Along with Emulators, I even have some Homebrewed games. I have a scientific calculator app, as well as a Homebrewed Nazi zombie COD spinoff, (which is decent for a Homemade game) To top it off I have a Minecraft portable version called Lamecraft. It's more of a Fortresscraft in my opinion.
Here is a list of Emulators that are possible on the PSP if you have a good CFW.
(A word on Emulators. It is not Illegal to own one, it is ILLEGAL to play games on them you have never owned!)

Soon I will uninstall the CFW I have and downgrade even more. It is required to get a better CFW in order to play ISO/CSOs. There have been reports of Bricking while uninstalling, so wish me luck.
My respect for Sony is regarding their laziness on keeping their PSPs from being hackable. I respect Sony for being so lazy. I also respect them greatly for creating the system in the first place. The ability to play your favorite games from the classic home consoles on a hand-held with portable capabilities is amazing.
Now, to finish... Here is what Sony said regarding CFW.
"I think that is something that is in the works. We certainly see some of the stuff that has been done via homebrew, and it's incredibly creative. And I think we'd like to try and tap into that a little bit more."
Huh, I have a jailbroken iTouch with a Gameboy advance, PS1, and Nintendo 64 emulator. All with a good set of games. Never knew PSP was capable of that, too.
Oh, and I don't know much about homebrew even if I DID jailbreak my iPod. I just know what I'm doing to avoid, er, "discombobulation".
It's actually illegal to posess ROMs or ISOs even if you did buy the real game.
But who the hell cares?
I use NESoid, SNESoid, N64oid, and GameBoid emulators on my Amdroid tablet. You can't get them from the Android Market, but you can get them with 4shared, MegaUpload, Etc...
Hmm... I commend Sony for their laziness. XD I wonder what I could do with my PS1...
Anyway, I have a few Emulators on my eMac[RockNES, Snes9X, and VisualBoy Advance]. I play SMW, the first three SMB's, and Oracle of Seasons.[I own Super Mario All-Stars, so I'm in the clear, ]
I find it amazing what you can do these days with systems that are a little lifeless.
Though I support and love homebrew, there is a major problem with emulators. The ONLY (and I mean only) reason emulators are legal is because they could technically be used to test out amateur-made games for a gaming system. Does that negate the fact that 99% of emulator owners have/never will do so? No. Ripping or downloading ROMs for games that you do not physically own is illegal however. o3o
I really do enjoy homebrew games and applications though, as the creators of those aren't really bound by any rules or regulations so they can make, well, whatever they want and they give the systems many more things to do.
+1
I don't support homebrew, or any kind of hacking in handhelds, because then we get our online multiplayer screwed up by hackers and games like Pokemon or any other that involves item trading is screwed too. The only reason i once used ROMs on my handheld(s) (DSi) was because each game in this joke of country i live in costs 120 USD (200 BRL) or even more. (yes, each DS game costs that.)
I didn't review this blog because it is pro-piracy, since it is in charge of Commander i am not responsible. DSi/3DSPaint's policy says members are responsible for their own content anyways
I have no problems with laggy emulation. The advantage and point to the PSP is the fact that is PORTABLE. Try carrying a desktop or Lap top in your pocket, bro.
Yeah, but i'm very particular when it comes to playing emulated games and the psp's emulation sucks (though not as bad as the ds). The best system (but still not perfect) to emulate games is the pc. That being said homebrew is still a great asset to any gameing platform.
I have a PSP 1000, the original actually. I was looking into getting a used PSP 3000, but it is very difficult to get CFW on and has been known to Brick.
At least you did the smart thing and waited for the warranty (assuming it's a 2-year one) expire first.
Them idiots out there think they know it all about homebrew, so they take their new iPod or psp and foolishly start jailbreaking or hackin it. Then it discombobulates on them, and they go crying to their mommies because they also voided the warranty and they can't fix it.
I'm all for homebrew games. In fact, I'm looking into making homebrew games for the dsi sometime. It's just the jailbreak crap that gets me.
