In case anyone ever tries to shake Your hand, here are a few examples, descriptions and meanings of some common handshakes:

1. The Coequal Handshake
The most common handshake around, where the open palm is presented in a vertical position, thumb uppermost. The standard number of shakes is between 5 and 7.
Meaning: You are viewed as equals.

2. The Compliant Handshake.
Slightly different to the Coequal Handshake, with the main difference being that the offered palm is facing up. This handshake may be useful to offer to someone who feels threatened by you. However, there are some variations. The Wet Squid is probably best known of these. In this shake four white clammy fingers are slackly dangled in your vague direction, a limp hand reflecting a limp person. Alternatively, the flaccid two-fingered widow may be offered. This is even more passive aggressive, and is similar to being offered a couple of cows teats to shake.
Meaning: Surrendering Authority

3. The Controlling Handshake
This handshake is usually done to you by a person in authority, who is most likely to have initiated the shake. A downward facing palm indicates their intention to dominate you, with the angle of the palm relative to floor reflecting their degree of aggression and dominance. The polite way to return this shake is with your palm facing the ceiling, not unlike The Compliant handshake above.
Meaning:Asserting Authority
